The litter tray

My cat is allergic to everything

I am back.

DoofusCat has been tested. He has had chronic vomiting for weeks now. Losing weight, erratic behaviour.

Turns out he is allergic to everything except meat. (am waiting for the vet to receive the full paper list).

So I'm assuming I need to feed him some sort of raw diet.

I've read around but it's all so confusing! I know they need taurine. Can I add this to meat and do it myself? Is that any cheaper than buying the frozen raw diet stuff?

Does he need meat, or can he live on fish?

I know I shouldn't mince if I am giving him beef (taurine) but if I AM giving him beef do I still need to add taurine?

Poor lad. Awful seeing them suffer.

I'd add taurine anyway, just because it seems really easy to lose it through processing which includes any cutting up at all.

Bengal cat forum know a lot about raw feeding, they are quite evangelistic about it. Good knowledge though.

Just pretend you have a Bengal.

There does seem to be a lot of...evangelism out there, I agree. I've been looking a lot. I'm sure raw is better for them, it makes sense. But I don't want to start some sort of life change where I feed them whole prey or start talking to people about the benefits. I just want an easy life for me and Doofus, and for him to stop being sick.

Have read some things that say they cant have fish exclusively, and shouldnt have it much at all. Anyone know if this is true?

If you can, join this group on FB www.facebook.com/groups/CatCrap/ CRAP stands for Cats Completely Raw and Proud (!)

I'm sure there are some die-hard evangelist types in the group but there's loads of info there too.
