The litter tray

Kitten/cat pooing behind curtains

Our 7 month old kitten/cat has always been fantastic with toileting - no accidents since we got her at 8 weeks old. She's been going outside (and using the garden for her 'business') for the last 6 weeks.

Three days ago, however, we discovered 4 poos behind the curtains ...... not pleasant!

Why might she suddenly have started this behaviour? TIA

Have you got a litter tray?

Yes - does she still have a tray inside? I'm wondering whether she might have encountered eg a mean tom outside who is making her too nervy to poo outside?

Is she neutered etc?

No, we packed up the litter tray a few weeks ago - maybe we need to reinstate it for a while.........

She was spayed a couple of months ago.

Litter tray again ...............

I think it's a good idea. Mine is 8 months and although she goes outside during the day, she always comes in to use the tray. Some cats just don't feel comfortable going outside, best to give her a choice.

It's worth a try - and maybe placed in an area which is fairly discreet if you can. (Her pooing behind the curtains might be some guilt but could also mean that she's real sensitive about that function. Many cats are because it's when they're more preoccupied and vulnerable.) And clean the soiled area thoroughly of course - as I'm sure you already have.

Good luck anyway - and let us know how it goes.

Good luck - oh and I should have said. If you're going to change the location of the litter tray, I'd wait until she's got back in the habit of using it - if that's the problem. Litter tray should probably go back in the same place as before for at least a short time.
