Please recommend a " caring for your kitten" book for my dd (8)

I'm an experienced cat owner but dd never knew our dear departed old girl as a kitten and has no kitten experience of her own. We will be looking for a rescue kitten when we return from summer hols mid Aug. I'd like to buy dd (8) a "you've got a new kitten" book to help guide her in making a home for her new furry pal. Any suggestions?

I bought this one when I first got a kitten.

Covers pretty much everything. Looks like it's not in circulation anymore, but used copies available.

My local Aldi had loads of RSPCA "how to care for your..." books last week. They had kitten, puppy, hamster etc. About £1.99. I think it was <a class="break-all" href="//www.amazon.co.uk/Care-your-Kitten-RSPCA-Guide/dp/0007182716?tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21" rel="nofollow noindex" target="_blank">this one. Might be worth a look if you have an Aldi nearby.

Thanks. Will take a look at both suggestions.

Just a thought. If you already know which local vet you're likely to use, it might be worth your while to check whether they have an internet presence and introduce DD to it if so. (My own vet practice has a website and eg facebook facilities and you can sign up to regular newsletters etc: I think this has increasingly become common practice.)

They might well be a little partial (and who can blame them) but it would introduce DD to some of the topics and - if she's used to the net - possibly ease the transition to pet-owning for her. I'd check out any pages myself before I let her loose on them of course.

Good idea, cozie. The vets dies have a website with lots of info. DD is used to it because our dear departed old girl went there. DD came with me a couple of times - not for the sad stuff.
