Our lovely little cat has FIP

Our lovely little 20 month old has suspected FIP. She is in a specialist hospital where they are trying to get a diagnosis but the signs don't look good. We lost her brother in October when he was run over. I can't believe it as had expected to have them for years and years. Anyone got any advice/ experience of FIP

Oh Dear, Dogmatix. I seem to recall that the prognosis for FIP is pretty darned grim once a cat is showing clinical signs.

Is she your only cat at the moment?

Yes she is. I'm so sad, the deterioration has been so fast.

If she has it, it likely would be. I think you should be preparing yourself for maybe having to make that hard decision in the very near future - if the diagnosis is confirmed.

I'm so sorry.

I'm sorry, I really hope it's something else. Such bad luck for both cats.

Thank you. I'm dreading explaining it to the kids. The deterioration has been so fast that they haven't really noticed it.

Hi Dog, our story is bizarrely similar to yours. Our lovely Sally was run over in November and her brother, our Harry was diagnosed with FIP just before Christmas. TBH I didn't think he'd make it to New Year at that point as he seemed so poorly, but he rallied and has been better these last few months. But today we've seen a decline. It's so unfair. He's just shy of his 4th birthday.
The vet said that the mutation of the virus into FIP can be caused by stress and linked it to his sister's death. I just wish there was something - anything - that we could do.

That's so sad, for you and your cat.

Bless, you must be devastated.

Has the vet talked about palliative care?

Aw I'm so sorry. We lost a cat to FIP a few years ago and it was heartbreaking.
