Help getting black stain off ginger cat!

PestoCat came home with a black Mark on his thigh a few days ago & it won't come off!

I have only tried a damp J-cloth as he won't still for me to brush him. Not sure what to do as I don't really want to put any cleaning chemicals on him, but this black mark is currently not shifting.

Any ideas please?

I had a pure white fur all that came home one time with 3 big black marks on her fur, two on her head. I think it was oil or grease. I tried cleaning her but didn't do any good. But, she groomed herself and got rid of them in a surprisingly short amount of time, and she was back to her pristine white. Cats are usually pretty excellent at keeping themselves well groomed so you might find you don't need to do anything.

Well he is very good at grooming himself but the stain isn't diminishing. It looks like someone's been at him with a Sharpie!

The Lodger (also a ginger boy) seemed to have a habit of sitting under cars and would sometimes have black oil/oily dirt stains on him. Are you sure it's not that? (What does the actual fur look like if you can get close to him?)

My ginger boy gets oil on him sometimes from being under cars, and I get at him with a babywipe or a flannel with a drop of shampoo on it

One of mine always gets black bits from sitting under cars. I usually 'loosen' the stain using olive oil and then it will mostly clean out. I don't like leaving it to him to groom out himself as I don't think oil/road dirt/exhaust is particularly healthy.

You can get baby wipes for cats from TK Max and Pets at Home. That's what I'd use. Wouldn't let them lick it off in case it's toxic.

Your cat could always do what my beloved ginger boy did to get motor oil off his coat. He used my month old leather sofa to clean himself! Cat 1 sofa 0. Btw it was over nite, vet said if he ever did it again fairy washing up liquid very good.

Also my black cat who has white paws came home once and they were bright pink! Never did work that one out.
