The litter tray

Can cats get alzhiemers?

My lovely placid boy had just turned 10.

He used to go in a plant pot or a shoe or a pile of washing if he found himself accidently shut out of the litter tray room and mewing hysterically wasn't getting any attention.

Recently he had just stopped using the tray even if he has access to it.

It's like he has just forgotten. He doesn't even do his distressed mew.

I don't know what to do. Sad

Have you had him checked by a vet?
Changed litter recently?
Our old girl now refuses to use a litter tray but she's 18!

Yes they can. I have had several elderly cats with dementia but get your cat checked by the vet anyway

It's only been a couple of days so not had him checked yet.

I have a 1 year old so not sure what to do in the meantime?

The litter is clean. He could be just unsettled. We are having new radiators fitted.

For some reason I just thought of his age first and thought it might just be his time to get awkward and grumpy. Grin

I definitely get him checked over tho.

I'd definitely take him to the vet's. His reluctance to use his tray could be a pain issue, arthritis for example.
