Flea/worm treatment

What is the best thing to use? PrickleCat needs doing, tablet?spot on? granules? what brand? She hasn't got fleas or worms but it is time to do it as according to CPL she needs it doing twice a year (house cat but has begun to venture in the garden!) If she goes out regularly after this dose what is the frequency for when it will need doing?

I'd recommend Advocate from your vet. It's a spot on treatment and does fleas, worms and I think tics. Once a month and it's brilliant.

Thanks, I will look into that. Does the vet need to administer it or is it something I can do?

No you can do it yourself. I wait until my terror is eating his tea. You just part the fur and squeeze it on the back of their neck. The vet will just weigh your cat to get the right size pack. You can order it online cheaper once you know which to use

You know what? I think I've wormed my cat once. The day I got her. 4 years ago. And she's an outside cat. She's fine, and on the rare occasion I've encountered her turds in the garden or tray, they are worm free. Same with my previous cats. I deflea when they look itchy, and immediately before going to the cattery. So probably a few times a year. I don't know if it's relevant but she has short fur and is not a big hunter.

Fantastic! I will get her to the vets this week for weighing, she is only little though (she is nearly 2 but the size of a 6-9 month kitten) thanks for the advice!

Advocate treats fleas and roundworms it does not cover ticks or tapeworm.
There is only one product that does fleas, ticks, roundworms and tapeworms and that is Broadline.
If ticks are not a problem an economical, but good combination is Activyl for fleas and milbemax for roundworms and tapeworms.

Bonzo that's interesting, I have a cat who is a Holy Terror when trying to restrain for treatments, & I'm an experienced cat wrangler.

It once took a senior vet nurse AND a vet 15 mins to hold her still for an anaesthetic & the poor nurse had terrible scratches!!!

She has really nasty reactions to any spot on treatments & can sniff out tablets at 50 paces. She did get wormy last year but seems to have cleared them as none evident.

Anyone got any suggestions??

Bonzo my practice treated a cat earlier this year where the owners had bothered to worm the cat as they had seen any signs. She suffered an intestinal obstruction and nearly died from the massive tapeworm in her stomach.
For cats who sniff out tablets which includes my evil devil you can use panacur granules in something really tasty or wrap them in a towel ( this what I do with my boy and he is truly evil).

We use Advocate and Profender and I think that covers just about everything except ticks - no idea what to do about them.

I keep meaning to get a prescription from the vet so I can order online as it's so expensive.
