Our lovely 16 yr old cat had a very serious eye injury on friday night and needed surgery. She has had a corneal graft (I think)!
She is home now and feeling very sorry for herself and generally disorientated. She is just standing in the kitchen staring into the oven :-(
She also pooed on our bed last night -whilst we were in it!
She is wearing a big collar to stop her scratching but wanted an idea of how long it takes cats eyes to heal? And how long before she is back to her old self?

What has your vet advised, Rosie?

The vet has just been a bit vague! Just wondered if anyone had an experience. Today she is very sleepy- not sure if that's to be expected after what she's been through. Not due back at vet til Friday

Goodness - without knowing what the surgery was, I think posters will find it hard to comment so you need to probe with your vet a little. (Maybe she was having a tired moment or something.) What I can say though is that many/most cats (if not all of them) hate having a collar on and feeling sorry for herself is quite par for the course.

Feeling disorientated and now sleepy is probably to be expected after a GA and major surgery. It can take them in all sorts of ways.

Was she in a fight?

PS - has she eaten/drunk and used her tray yet?

She was in a fight :-(
They thought she may lose the eye but they managed to save it but probably not the vision. It looks very sticky and sore. In a way I wish they had removed the eye as I think that is easier for an old cat to get over.
She is eating a very small amount. The collar is really bothering her too
