The litter tray

How long did your kitten's post spay cone stay on?

Mine was done last Friday and the wound is healing well. She had a check up on Monday and the nurse told us to keep the cone on. The wound looks really good, but she can't clean herself and I'm having to wipe her bottom with baby wipes.

If I take the cone off for an hour or so will it be okay, even if she cleans the shaved area? The stitches are internal, so there's nothing sticking out for her to pull on.

She smells Sad

I would have thought so but I would always be around in those circumstances - to supervise and calm the kitten down if there was any worrying of wound or wild behaviour. (I wouldn't worry about her licking the shaved area as long as it was a normal, considered but gentle, lick and not anything fevered.)

I'd give her a good hand by wiping her nether parts with warm water first though. It might be a bit depressing for her trying to clean old pee off her backside and you don't want to put her off that for life.

My Girl didn't have a cone at all, she was fine let her have a good clean and just watch her.

mine only wore theirs for 24 hours, they wanted to nibble the wound site in the first few hours after their op but once a day had gone by had no interest in the area at all and just washed as normal. I think once the operation site stops being sore they ignore it really.

Thanks for the replies Smile

I'm off work tomorrow, so might leave it off and watch her to see how it goes. I've sponged her bottom and she's not so smelly now. The wound area looks great, no oozing or swelling or anything. She's trying to clean herself through the collar and looks so pathetic.
