The litter tray

Desperate- Cat weeing

Help me please! We have two cats- and one is a habitual floor pee-er.
This happened in our last house, and has now started in our new house.

She is a nervous creature anyway. We got her as a kitten from the cats protection league, and she jumps and scurries away at about every sound.

We've had her for about 5 years.

  • They've had separate litter trays- it made no difference.
  • We've plugged in feliway- it made no difference.
  • We've changed the litter multiple times, and used the absorbent crystals.
  • She's on sensitive stomach food that is costing us a small fortune.
  • She's got free access to the garden and gets plenty of outside time and exercise.
  • We've taken her to the vet in the past, and they've put it down to a nervous disposition.

Every morning we spend a good 20 minutes on our hands and knees scrubbing the floor- but the hideous smell is lingering- seeping into the kitchen units. We are at our wits end, and are on the verge of taking her back to cats protection.

1) Can anyone recommend a cleaning product that actually works to eradicate the smell?
2) Can anyone suggest anything else we can try to stop her from doing this? Our new house is beautiful and I am in tears about this problem. It is making me resent her!

Have you tried using diluted white vinegar on the floor? Mine will wee on a bath rug unless I splash vinegar on it and allow it to dry off.

Thanks for the advice. I will get some vinegar tomorrow.
I will confine them both outside tonight, as I am at my wits end. We have a safe walled garden that they love, so it shouldn't bother them too much- but I cannot stand another morning of scrubbing.

I did phone the cats protection, but they don't have space to have her at the moment- so I've put her down on a waiting list- almost a stay of execution I suppose.

In the meantime, I am going to go to the vets (again...), and see if they will provide me with a referral to Vicky Hall. She isn't a million miles away from us- and we have the 'gold' RSPCA policy for them both- which hopefully will cover it...

I am so torn. I love her to bits, but cannot stand my house constantly smelling like cat wee. Sparky, hats off to you- you obviously have way more patience then me!

I've got one like this too. She's 16 now and I've done all the things you've done. Now it's warmer in the last week I've shoved a bed for her in the garage because no matter how much I was scrubbing my hallway stank. Mine has always done it, she also likes to poo right outside the back door, even though she's got litter boxes in the shed and garage too.
