The litter tray

Talk to me about clumping cat litter please...

This is great, but what have people found is the best way to use it. Yes, you remove the clumps, etc, but do you then go on to reuse all the other, and at what stage do you bin it all and start again. One house cat, think she poos outside in summer, but wees in her tray. Who knows why...

We still use this in theory, but in practice the cats go outside unless they're locked in (which we only do for vet or cattery visits). So I can't quite remember what we did. But we definitely reused the remaining litter, and for quite some time - we used Cat's Best and it clumped really well and didn't seem to retain any smell in the remaining litter. It took us a while to settle on it, and not long after that the cats started going out, so I think we only did one complete change - that was when it got to a critical mass of little poo crumbs that had separated off from the main clumps ... ugh, sorry! With no poos in though, I would say change it when it starts to get whiffy.

I use Cat's Best as well and find that I only need to clear it out completely about every 2 weeks. But I am pretty quick on getting any clumps out during the day, both wees and poos. I find that this is absolutely the best and am assured by others that there is no smells coming from the litter tray direction (just in case I'm immune to my own house smells!).

So I fill it up quite deeply, remove clumps as necessary, put a little bit of new in every couple of days, (just so the dear cat can keep practising her World Standard Litter Throwing, ready for the Olympics Wink), and as already said, complete renewal every 2 weeks.

My sister alsonuses it and does exactly the same and we thank God we found this stuff but we never dispose of it down the loo as advised, it would come back and haunt us!

Thanks! Where do you get Cats Best from please? Our cat is good at litter throwing, but having got her a covered litter tray is being somewhat thwarted in her efforts...

Pets At Home have it online, think we got ours from somewhere else online - possibly VetUK.

Another fan of Cat's Best here! I get it from Zooplus (free shipping, and they often include freebies in your order).

With our two small cats (Burmese and Tonk) I find we only have to completely change the litter every 3-4 weeks. I am quite sensitive to stinky litter trays so I make sure DH changes it as soon as it it gets whiffy!

We clear the clumps every morning with a slotted scoop. We flush the waste down the loo as Cats Best is biodegradeable like toilet paper. It's easy because the litter tray is in our big bathroom (we live in an apartment).

Thoroughly recommend Car 's Best!
