Do cat fleas look like storm flies?

All the pictures on google are large scale. Our kitten have been asleep on our bed and thee are now black insects on the quilt cover. Trying to see whether we have a flea problem ( cats have disappeared so can't examine them!)

I have no idea what a storm fly looks like, but fleas are wingless, dark in colour, and approx 3mm long.

Hmm sounds like these might be fleas - great will I have to treat the whole house for eggs?

You might get away with just treating the cats as it's early in the season so the fleas may not have laid eggs yet. But if they have regular sleeping places on soft furnishings, that's where the eggs will be. And in any carpets.

have got four sulky cats here today have frontlined them all OP make sure you not only do the cats but get a decent carpet/ household flea spray aswell as the fleas dont generally live on the cats they live in the carpets and areas like skirting boards, also be worth taking your curtains down and giving them a wash aswell

Fleas are brown and shiny like conkers, the tiny dark bits might be flea dirt (faeces). You can tell if it is by dropping some onto wet tissue, if it starts turning red it's flea dirt. Sometimes it is just specks of dirt from rolling around in the garden if the bits just stay black. Flea eggs are cream coloured oval in shape, and do not stick to the cat, hence needing to treat the environment they live in. Do not use products from the shops, you need veterinary strength stuff, and make sure you do worm treatment as well.

If you part the fur around the kittens neck, around the ears and also in the groin area you may see scabs where the fleas have been feeding, or even catch sight of one crawling through the fur.

I'd treat the house now. We had terrible, terrible problems last year and the vet confirmed that there are some bloody awful and resilient fleas out there and the sooner you deal with it the better.

Frontline is becoming ineffective too which is worth bearing in mind. Our vet said this is why there were so many about last year. Weather's getting warmer, it's time for the fleas to wake up and start annoying us.

Fleas are shiny brown, roughly 1mm long, have 6 legs and usually jump when you try and grab them! Their faeces are slightly crescent shaped black specks more like storm flies. They are dried blood so as someone has said you can sprinkle them on wet kitchen roll and see if they streak red.
If it is a flea problem then try advocate spot-on (prescription treatment from your vet) and a household spray eg , Acclaim or RIP
