Can't believe it- he's only been going out for a few weeks and now hasnt come back. I have searched the neighbourhood, made posters, knocked on doors and now feel totally useless. have spent weekend in tears :-( hes microchipped and wears a collar tho he is only 8 months old. Anyone have any other ideas what I can do? Feel devatated

How long has been gone? It's not unusual for cats to wander for a few days, even weeks sometimes.

Also call all vets in your area. Many of them keep lists of missing cats. Call RSPCA who also keep a list of missing pets. Advert in local paper. Call the council and any animal shelters you have in your area. Put posters up in pet shops.

Is he neutered?
Toms do love to wander, moreso if they are entire.

He will most likely come back just fine on his own. Keep in until he is neutered though. Toms often wander further and get lost of they are looking for a mate.

thats a good idea- will ring the vets/shelters in the morning. Would never have thought of putting an advert in the paper tho- under what section? surely tho if he was handed in he would be scanned for a microchip?

its been chucking it down here and is now freezing cold! Poor little thing's going to freeze if he's still out there. I just wish I knew where he was. Surely someone would have taken him in if they saw a lost cat?

Someone may have found him, but not thought to take him to be scanned. Or may know what area he is in but don't realise he is missing.

Our local paper has a lost and found pets section.

He's about 8 months but still quite little IYKWIM. I put a (quick release) collar on him as I was worried that he might get lost. I have lost a cat before and I guess that's why I cant help but feel he's never coming back.

Thats a good idea thanks- i'll add that to my list tomorrow. I really hope he has been found-the thought that he's wandering around cold and hungry is just too awful. He's my DS's favourite cat and a real character. Sad

Having found two cats over the years and gone to great lengths to see if anyone was looking for them via posters, messages at the vet's etc, I second all the advice given on here. Neither of these cats was microchipped though and neither were claimed, so have added to our cat clan....
Also, if yours was insured or registered with the microchip company they will help you advertise his disappearance.
I texted everyone I knew as well and asked them to look out for missing cat posters - helped me to rule out a few missing cats in the local area.
Don't give up; someone is no doubt giving him something to eat and cats often wander for a few days. Paws crossed he will come home very soon xx

Oh that's great!! You must be so so relieved. I hope he's ok.

Our cats are v young too and mean the world to us. One went missing for a night a few months back and I was worried sick. You feel so helpless. I was wandering round the neighbourhood shouting and banging his dish Lord knows how mad I must've lookedBlush

I really wish someone would invent a microchip for pets that you can track.
