Kittern Feeding Help

Hello Everyone,

Hoping that someone can give me some help ref my 16 week old kitten and his seriously smelly poops!

Picked up Pippin last week from a rescue shelter, they said that they were feeding him Felix in Jelly (not kitten but adult food).

Have carried on feeding him this but his poo's smell really badly! He goes in a covered litter tray but my god it makes the house stink afterwards.

We have never had a young cat before (alwasy rehomed older cats) so we are uncertain as to whether or not the food is correct for him.

Can someone advise as to changing food? Or is it just something we are going to have to put up with.

Oh, should mention he has been wormed and had a Vet check up last week and declared very healthy.

Thanks

Not sure but someone with better advice will be along later however our adult female neutered tabby who only eats dried food also has REALLY smelly faeces much more than our adult male cat! They also both use a covered tray inside since we have recently moved house. Sometimes the smell is so awful you can smell it in the whole house!!

Hi your kitten should eat kitten food until about one year old I think (so it says on my kitten food packet!). We just got an 8 week old kitten and were advised by the vet that if we want to change her food (she was being fed Tesco own brand kitten food which is not particularly nice) to do it v gradually, adding just a tiny bit of the new food at each meal and gradually changing to the new food over the course of a couple of weeks. So you could move him onto something more suitable and just do it gradually.

Our kitten has very smelly poo mind you. It's not helped by the fact that it is sometimes runny (but other times not) and she is v fluffy and her bottom fur gets caught in it, and she steps in it (bleurgh!). I am hoping and praying that once she is fully switched to the new food that her poos will be less smelly and always solid!

She also does v smelly farts, usually shortly before a poo. I am embarrassed inviting people over as our house stinks (still have DS2 in nappies, and DD recently potty trained...).

I have two 7mth old kitties & one day last wk I had to give them a meal of adult cat food and their poo stank afterwards, so it could be the food they are eating iyswim.

I would definately change them to kitten food as that is far better for them when they are so young, think its got more calcium in IIRC.
