Young female dog wanted

Hi, can anyone help? I'm in Aberdeen and looking to rehome a young, female dog preferably under 1 year old. We recently lost our old girl at the age of 13 and my 2 boy dogs and I are missing a lady dog very much.

Ideally it would be a lurcher type, Bedlington/Whippet Cross as first choice but wouldn't rule out any dog with a gentle and loving nature.

However, having said that I wouldn't rule anything out, I am really not keen on butch type dogs or toy dogs and a dog that has really high energy is offputting even though I walk around 3 hours daily in all weathers!

If anyone can help or know of anyone who is struggling with a dog at the moment, please let me know.

Thanks!

Plenty of shelters - have you tried Mrs Murray's?

Also, if you're willing to travel, Hounds First have gorgeous dogs.

Yes I have tried all the shelters around here and Mrs Murray's. It would be fine if I wanted a Staffie but I really don't although plenty of people love them to bits but its not right for me.

What is frustrating is that there are literally thousands down south who have lurchers coming out of their ears but travelling with my own 2 will be difficult and expensive each time I have to visit a potential new dog.

I think word of mouth may be the best way to get a new doggie friend.

I disagree - no home check, no real way of knowing why the dog is being dumped.

Surely better to wait until one comes up from a rescue?

I know several dogs rehomed privately. They have been perfectly fine dogs, just needing rehoming for other reasons. I know MN hates it, but not everyone will go through rescue centres.

Good luck OP, I'm Darn Sarf so no good. My friend is heavily involved in a rescue rehoming greyhounds and whippets, so many at any one time.

I volunteer for hounds First and JustWhippets and we have dogs all over the country.

We have some gorgeous bull lurcher pups, and a good few other Saluki crosses.

Have a look on our Facebook page.

Why a "lady dog"?

As long as they're neutered theres very little difference between sexes.

Lurcher link has helped transport dogs to their new homes in Scotland in the past with volunteers assistance, but depends if they've anything suitable in. I've a bull lurcher from them she'd probably fall under butch but she's ace, very loving and cuddly.

Do you want the lurcher to walk around for 3 hours in all weathers?

That's 3 hours divided over 3 walks and my last girl was happy to - she was a hardy sort, never complained

Hi,
Thanks for the posts. I have looked at the just whippets Facebook page. We are preferably looking for a Bedlington whippet cross. Does anyone know any rescue ones or breeders? We are in Hampshire but could travel.
Thanks
