The doghouse

Anyone know an inexpensive groomer in Edinburgh?

Hello ... long shot, I know. Thought I'd get away with having my Shih Tzu pup groomed every 6 weeks or so, but in fact his fur grows like a weed, and it probably needs to be every 4 weeks. At £35 a pop, it soon adds up, on top of food, insurance etc.
Would really appreciate any recommendations.
Thanks in anticipation.

I had the same issue with mine. Would you consider doing it yourself?

I bought some dog clippers and brushes etc and now do it at home, he looks great! The problem is, the first time I did it I was terrible, and he looked like he was missing chunks and all sorts. But with practice I rapidly got better.

He also loves it as he gets treats and encouragement galore, he seems to enjoy the pampering and I like to think it's good bonding time. Obviously my results aren't as good as the professionals but you could maybe do him yourself between visits and only take him to the groomers once every 2 or 3 months?

Hi. Thanks very much for your reply. Gosh, I'm really not sure. I think the professionals would handle him much better than I! Still, I could get something to do his bottom area (otherwise the poo sticks) myself, as this would definitely stretch out his groomer visits a bit. Let me know if you're in Edinburgh and fancy the extra practice! Grin Wink

My DP was massively Hmm when I brought the clippers home, and was not too impressed with the first result! You do need to just try and not be scared of it, and just get stuck in, it's not for everyone though.

I know what you mean about the hairs around their anus being a problem, it's quite easy to clip around there, I do it when he is clean after a bath. I'm not in Edinburgh, but I think I'd be too scared to do someone else's dog anyway Grin
