Dog rescue that allows rehoming with children?

Obviously the dog being rehomed, not children being rehomed (although that could be tempting at times!).

Can anyone recommend a dog rescue near West Lothian / Edinburgh? We are looking for a new dog, but have 2 children (8yrs) and many rescues seem to have age restrictions.

Dogs Trust in West Calder? I haven't been to that one, but we got our rescue JRT from another branch. Not all dogs are suitable for homes with children; sometimes you have to keep checking back for the right dog to appear.
You probably know about that one anyway, but hey, at least it bumps the thread.

I was going to suggest dogs trust too

When we were looking for a rescue dog a lot of centres refused point blank to rehome to us as we had young children, even suggesting we buy a puppy. Dogs trust were great in that they assesed whether each dog was suitable and in the end we adopted two large breed dogs from them Grin they also had great follow up support

I hope you find right dog for your family Smile

Bullies in need do, they're dogs are put in foster homes so you know exactly what they're like and the foster homes are scattered all over the uk. Most of the foster families will deliver the dog to you as they want to meet you and say goodbye

What breed/type of dog do you want?

A lot of the Lurcher and Greyhound rescues rehome nationally. Lurcher Link and EGLR definitely do and I know of dogs going from LL in particular right up to the North of Scotland and iirc, even onto one of the islands up there.

Both match homes to the needs of individual dogs and don't have any set age restrictions. EGLR clearly state on their website which of their dogs are fine with children too.

The rescues I came across with age restrictions were usually no children younger than 6, so you should be OK anyway.
