size of grate for a labrador puppy.

Getting a labrador puppy in July. He will be 12 weeks.Would like to get a crate. Is it best to get a smaller one just to use for a small time or is it best to get a larger one. Haven't got a massive kitchen.
Also wonder whether a kennel would be a good idea or should I clear out the garden shed?Iwork part time but have a dog walker for the days I work. Any suggests please?

Is this a wind up? Puppies need socialisation and companionship not just a dog walk. Labs will get bored and chew everything especially if stuck in a shed. How will you do toilet training? Need to be there all the time to make sure you take them out after eating, drinking, playing, sleeping.. so they can have a wee or poo outside.
Our lab puppy started with a small crate for the night but we soon moved him to a larger one so he could turn around without touching the sides. Comfy bed inside and covered the top over with a blanket - like a budgie. Not a peep from 10pm to 8am now he is house trained.
Wish you luck but hope the puppy gets LOTS of human and social interaction.

Why are you not getting him until 12 weeks as you will have missed the important socialisation window? please don't leave a dog alone in a garden when you are out ,even the most secure gardens are not and dogs get stolen on a daily basis. What is the dog walker going to do ,because young pups don't actually do much walking . As for the crate ,get a big one and section a bit off if that's the way you're going .

Seems to be very negative comments. I am not thinking of keeping it locked in the shed but just need him to have somewhere to go to shelter. As for work I only work 2 days a week and have plenty of help and one teenager to help out.I am not working much in the summer and my dog walker also cleans for me so will be with him for about 3 hours.
The reason we are waiting for 12 weeks so that we can have our holiday first.He has plenty of socialisation where he is.
Areyou trying to say that you shouldn't have a dog if you work at all.Ihave plenty of friends that doand it works out fine

No ,it's perfectly reasonable to have a dog and work ,just not a good idea to leave them in a garden .
