Doggy Cupcakes - Good recipe - Oil Subs ??

I know little about keeping dogs as we are cat people, I do however know that like cats that some foods can make them ill.

Going up to visit my very doggy friend & her lovely Frenchy on Saturday & I will be making her & a couple of other friends we are meeting up with Cupcakes.

I've never made dog cupcakes before, but I know her Frenchy loves them & so I want to take him cakes too.

The recipe I have says it needs canola oil - I don't have it in & don't want to buy it just for these

What else can I safely use - is butter safe for dogs ??

Or does anyone have a tried & tested recipe that your dog loves that uses more basic store cupboard ingredients.

Thank You :)

PS - are bananas safe?? - I have a load of those that could do with using up, so maybe thinking Banana & Peanut Butter Cakes would be good

Also can I safely use some sort of frosting on the cakes ?

I use olive oil in my dogs homebaking rather than butter. I use cream cheese for frosting or peanut butter. I have used banana but one of my dogs doesn't like them so I don't use them very often.

That's brilliant, thank you :)

Thinking I will mix cream cheese & peanut butter together for the frosting - I wasn't sure if they could eat diary as I know my cats can't without stomach upset, good to know they can as makes it much easier

Thanks again

Some dogs are ok with dairy (more so than cats) but some aren't.

Ah, I think I best check with my friend then - was hoping to surprise her & him, but I don't want to make him ill - especially as he's quite an old boy

Thanks

I also make all my own treats for my dogs they have meatballs just any mince I can get cheap mixed with an egg rolled into sausage shapes or balls then cook in oven. They are great because you can freeze them. I also make them chicken mousse. Blend chicken, eggs in blender and pour into silicon moulds (I use these because they are easier to get out) these are the same and can be frozen. You could also put frosting on these. Hope these are of use also.

I make liver cake but I'm cutting it up as training treats...I can't see why it wouldn't make actual cakes though? I know you can also swap the liver for tuna.

You could use pate or something like that instead of icing? maybe?

Can you tell I don't bake? lol

Lol -

Thank you for those suggestions, but I'm veggie & afraid that would make me gag to make Envy

I've just looked on her facebook page to message her as it's the quickest way to get her attention - big stroke of luck in that her new photo banner thing is her lovely old Frenchy enjoying an ice cream cone :) - So I looked through a few other photos in an album of him - & theres one with him eating a bit of banana too - one of his favourites according to the comment

so I will be making banana & peanut butter muffins (I know from past he likes PB), probably using olive oil topped with PB & cream cheeses frosting

thanks for the help :)

I'm a veggie too - I shove it all in a bowl, blend it with a hand blender and don't look, lol. Then it all goes straight in the dishwasher...thankfully it just looks cakey when it's done.

Mine looked at me like I was insane when I offered him banana and peanut butter in a kong, but I know lots of dogs like things like that Smile I'm sure your friend's dog will be delighted.

Your much braver than me then, the smell would get me most I think - lol :)

I suppose they are like people, different palates & like different things - our cats are the same - one hates fish, one loves it

thanks again
