Long story short - DH & I have working sheep dogs on a working farm, work closely with a well known collie rescue and are experienced dog owners. Collies are "our" breed, although we've had many others we know what we're doing with dogs etc...

BUT... after watching a film last night which had a very cute flooffy white Samoyed puppy, I WANT one! It's so Cute. The rescue that DH work with has a Samoyed dog in at the moment. She is 8 and so Fluffy and white and the rescue has said I can have her if I want her... and DH has said no as he doesn't want more dogs and anyway, he reckons a big white fluffy Spitz breed dog is a stupid dog to have on a working farm... Bastard. [buwink]

It's just so fluffy and cute and white and I WANT it! It's like a small Polar bear!

So... given this is ALL about me and what I want, and nothing to with the needs of the dog or DH and his wishes...Do I...

a) Ignore DH and go and get it from the rescue and deal with the aftermath when I get back... It's just so "fluffy and cute"...

b) Be all responsible and put my broody fluffy dog needs first and get it - it is about me after all...

c) Leave the dog in rescue and my marriage intact...

Hmmm, you and I both know that DH adores you and will cope with yet another rescue creature arriving in the menagerie/madhouse. Wink Grin So really the issue is whether a fluffy white polar bear will be a good fit on a muddy farm, and do you have the time/energy/inclination for the grooming and training?

The Rescue assures me that Flooffy Dog can actually be clipped like ASBO collie for the summer... so mud & dangle berries are dealt with. Plus we have a deep water tank/trough for when mud is all over flooffy coat... Can White Polar bear dogs swim? Grin

Training is neither here or there - every animal including the chickens, cats, lambs and horses dog on this farm has an ASBO. Wink

It's a Flooffy White Polar Bear... called "Kiki".

DH has just said he's not having a Floofy White dog called Kiki because it will destroy all his street cred. I asked What Street Cred and he went Hmm

My campaign for a Flooffy white polar bear dog is not going well!

Oh and DH's other argument is that in the film, the Samoyed puppy was taken by and Eagle owl (it was OK) and we have Buzzards on the farm, so therefore it won't be safe... [buhmm]

Your dogs are collies, bright, clever, intuitive, highly intelligent and you want a Flooffy bit of eye candy. You will be driven nuts by the dumbness/blondeness whiteness.

Dye one of your collies white and back comb

samoyeds may look like big soft fluffy dogs but they are still working dogs bred for sliegh pulling also can be very stubborn a friend of mine had one and it was called buggy short for bugger and it was and yes they do need a lot of grooming and thier coat gets rotten filthy dirty

Your dogs are collies, bright, clever, intuitive, highly intelligent... I beg to differ with DH's "working collie". Scuttlebutter will confirm this... he's lovely, but very dim! I can do "dumb"!Grin

Issey6cats - how would they be pulling DH's broken down tractor? Now that's a thought that could persuade him... Hmm...

You think your collie is dim in comparison to your other dogs -Flooffy dog will show you dim.........

Get the dog. You can always replace a husband, but fluffy white dogs don't come along everyday.... [bugrin]

Did you know that Samoyeds are known as the chatty dogs? They make lots of different noises as if they are talking, I was told by a breeder at a dog show.
She is not a puppy though, you said she is 8, you wrote .

The rescue will have to see first if she gets on with your other dogs.
Good luck.

I had two Spitzes and we always lived on farms, although to be fair this was because of the horses rather than working farms. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised as Spitz breeds have a coat that repells the dirt as they dry, so the first time you see the dog dirty you will have a heart attack but a couple of hours by the Aga will sort it all out! I only washed our Spitzes a couple of times a year.
