Swear mine does or tries to if I'm rubbing his tummy. Sort of breathes out making a noise over the back of his throat. V sweet.

Whippy tries to. She was raised by the cat from 10 weeks old. Devil Dog liked her not and she likes to snuggle up, so she snuggled the cat and he sort of adopted her. She's more cat than dog now Grin

Yep. He does the 'purr' when he's having a good tummy rub/ear scratch. He grumbles a good bit, too, and sighs. He's become very vocal lately.

My Doodle does. When he's upside down on your lap getting cuddles.
He gets quite loud!

Yes!!! I was worried when he was a puppy that it was growling and used to tell him off Blush but many years later I am now used to his very loud purring. Like a repeated contented groan really, on the outbreaths.

RottDog purred, except it sounded like growling. We knew it was friendly, but it put the frighteners up a lot of people not used to her! Apparently Rotties are well known for it.

(Friends Rottie did the same, except with bared teeth as well - now that was scary!)

My rottie growls too...but it's not the same growl as his real growl -it's not quite a purr either, they are supposed to be quite vocal.

yes.
Purrs when I rub the tummy and growls when we play.
It's so funny.

My long departed Goldie used to groan in ecstasy when you made a fuss of him. It didn't sound like his growl but it used to worry other people. He used to do it when he smelled a bitch in season too, even after he'd been neutered. He would lie next to where they'd wee'd and lick the grass and groan.

Old Dog makes a rhythmic huffing and closes her eyes when you pet her.

Yes I have always thought my sheltie was a cat in a previous life! Grin

our patterdale terrier makes a purring noise when i scratch her ears. But she is more of a cat than a dog, likes sitting our my lap getting fussed rather than go for a walk.

Yes! One of my goldies does this too! I also believed it to be growling until I knew better. He is most inclined to do it when getting a tummy rub or a big cuddle from my toddler Grin
