So it's one o clock in the morning and I've outdone myself with research on dog sites. Head is now spinning and not really any further forward so would really welcome some real life advice.
My girl has just started her first season at thirteen months. Was always going to have one season due to breed (Bernese) and then arranged to have her spayed couple of months after. Having said that, I'm now wondering if she would be better off being allowed a second season just to give her a bit more maturity time (and to delay putting my baby through an op - I'm a wimp and love her more than I thought possible). I'm certain I can keep her out of trouble although if she doesn't stop humping my leg right now I may rethink. Are there any drawbacks to letting her have another season ?
Secondly, she's about due her first boosters and I've always been certain that it ain't going to happen unless titre tests show it necessary. This is me being a wee bit precious as her breed can have a tendency towards being immuno compromised. She will never have the rabies vaccination due to the risk and I'm reluctant with the kennel cough one. But really not sure about the others. Has anyone else done titre testing and if so, do the tests generally show that vaccination is not needed ? My vets only advice is that she's almost certain to get cancer young anyway so just to vaccinate and be damned. I wholly disagree as every Berner I know has lived to 11/12. Needless to say, am changing vets asap.
Am I overthinking it all ?
