Emergency recall

I have an emergency recall for Dog2 that is a whistle of a certain pitch that means 'I have a treat for you'. Word seems to have got out. I had to use it today, and three other dogs came running too! They all arrived as if expecting a treat.

What do you use as an emergency recall? Is a whistle the most common?

By the way, I don't mean an actual emergency, I just mean for those moments when something is very interesting and he's already a distance away, and a regular 'come' might get ignored. Today it was just a lady who is frightened of dogs taking her bin in, and I didn't want him to bother her. Since all the other dogs in earshot came too, she didn't get bothered by any of them!

I always go out with the 'squeaky toy of power' in my pocket. Pup is never allowed to play with it on his own but he is ever hopeful and hurtles back whenever it is squished loudly.

I have my 'collie voice'. Proper loud, firm, precise and normally only deployed for 'lie DOWN', be-HIND' or 'come here!'. Collies obey without a blink. Supernanny would be proud!!

Mine is to do a squeaky voiced 'wossis?' (what's this) and then he comes running because I only ever say that when I've 'found' something edible for him.

I'm fairly sure all the local dogs have learned wossis too, I get quite a crowd at the park sometimes.

I have a "tone" of voice a roar that does the trick.

I haven't tried tone of voice, I'll have to experiment with that, thanks. I always speak to them in a sweetie type of voice (which sometimes gets me odd looks from strangers when they are misbehaving - I'm sure they are wondering why I'm not shouting at them).

A squeaky toy is a good idea too. We tried that once but there was friend's GSD around at the time and it led to ishoos (jealousy).

Mine knows his emergancy recall command, I wish I did! Its whatever comes into my voice when he is in immediate danger but I can't mimic this unless its a real situation if you know what I mean. It is very effective though - he drops like a stone and stays there until I go to him!

I use tone of voice too. I did have a whistle and he is trained to it, despite being a GSD but DH wont use it so tone works fine here.

I am working on emergency down - roar works for that.

Oh and if I have a ball in my hand he will do anything I ask when I ask, very ball motivated is my Loofa.

I sometimes buy a bag of chips on a Friday afternoon near where I walk PottyDog. It attracts every Labrador within a 2 mile radius.
