Book recommendations - dog behaviour & training

Can anyone recommend any books about dog behaviour - something about why they behave the way they do, instincts, wild dogs etc (a narrative rather than a training manual) just to satisfy my curiosity about why GrockleDog does the things she does?

And also a training book - how to get her to stop barking, come when other people call her (she only comes to me) etc?

Many thanks.

I love "Dogs - A New Understanding of Canine Origin, Behaviour & Evolution" by Ray and Lorna Coppinger though it's not as readable as The Culture Clash, so I'd start with that one (and any of Donaldson's other books that interest you). I've also loved "Bonding With Your Dog" by Victora Schade, a really enjoyable read with loads of case studies as well as useful info. I've just started reading "Inside of a Dog: What Dogs Think and Know" by Alexandra Horowitz which I'm really enjoying too. "In Defence Of Dogs" is on my bookshelf ready to go - I have heard lots of good things about it :)
