Garden play time

As it's nice weather, we've been spending a fair amount of time outside in the garden. The puppy (10weeks or thereabouts) has been out with us, zooming about, or lying in the shade just watching.

When I come in to make dinner/take children to the loo/etc, I've left her outside as it seems a shame to make her come in. If the chickens are out too, she's tied on a long lead as she's not 100% reliable as far as not chasing goes.

I take it that allowing dogs in the garden unsupervised for short periods of time is ok? (Dog dunce- last dog I had we lived in a flat without a garden.)

What about when I do the school run (half an hour)? I've been bringing her in and putting her in a safe room (she's not had all her jabs yet so can't come with me). That feels a bit mean, but it feels wrong to leave her in the garden if I'm not there.

What would you do?

I wouldn't for fear if them escaping or strangling themselves tied up. I'd want to know everything was secure if I was to leave them and that they had shelter should I get held up. Mine have access to the garden all the time were in, it's secure but there is one area they could get through or it blow down. Then they could get into other people's gardens or the chickens!!
