Bordon, not Borden.

Poor little thing.
Hopefully his instinct will make him seek out the safety of other dogs and some savvy dog walker will recognise that he's alone and scared.

Hopefully he's wearing a collar and ID disc.

Hope he's found soon.

I'm so sorry - this happened to me in blardy East London of all places. But we got our boy back, and if that can happen - I'm sure your Frankie will come home. Sure you have done - but have you let your nearest Greyhound Rescue know too?

Forgive me if you are already doing all this. Make sure you contact methodically all the pounds/Dog Wardens in a twenty/twenty five mile radius. Dog Wardens do not routinely share information on strays with neighbouring Councils and dogs don't know they have crossed a County line. Keep contacting them on a daily basis. Contact all greyhound/sighthound/all breed rescues in the area.

Don't forget to call the TRA, and the Highways Dept of the local Councils with a full description too, in case he was a road casualty. Even if chipped, many Councils won't automatically inform owners about deceased pets.

All vets surgeries - circulate poster/info/details in case he is brought in.

Contact things like Forestry Commission (if appropriate in your area), Country Parks etc.

Consider an appeal in your local media.

Frankie will almost certainly have a tattoo ID - make sure these details are circulated with the description, and whether he is chipped and neutered. Without knowing the details, do you think he was genuinely lost or was he stolen? Pointies are very desirable to certain sections of the community and can be stolen for coursing/working etc. If he has been stolen, contact a local sighthound rescue who will have probably have contacts in this world to see about a return (may need a hefty reward).

Good luck. Hope he is home soon.

Thanks Scuttle. Most of that list has already been done by Jane at Celia Cross and her army of volunteers. But not the Forestry Commission. Will check out who (if anyone) owns the land where we thing Frankie is roaming.

Thanks x

BehindLockNumberNine it is army land so worth contacting Bordon Barracks. Also the land is used by a model flying group at weekends maybe worth contacting them. I will try and find the details.

Someone has already contacted MOD. Is that the same as the barracks (clueless emoticon)

Details for the flying club would be great though - if they are out there they may spot Frankie.
Poor boy has been out there somewhere since Monday... Sad

Thats so sad, do you know how he died?

I remember when I got my greyhound, we weren't used to having a dog in the house and someone left the frontdoor open just for a second and she got out. I chased her down the road and we live on a busy road, was very scary but easily done. I bet his owners feel awful but it really is a tragic accident.

Sad the link says he's been reunited.
Was he your dog lock

Report
BehindLockNumberNine · 26/11/2011 20:41

No, he was not mine. We adopted our dog from the Celia Cross Greyhound trust in the summer and still pop back frequently to visit. Ds sometimes volunteers there and thus we knew Frankie.
I was there on Sunday to do a few jobs and cuddle some dogs when Frankie was adopted out to his lovely new family only for this tragedy to happen Sad

I don't know how he died, he was found dead in a field, 3 miles from where he went missing, no obvious injuries other than some scratches on his leg.

He is being cremated and the ashes will be scattered at Celia Cross's kennels.

So sorry I posted incorrect information. I was sent an email by a "trusted"dog lost volunteer in the area to stop putting up posters as the dog had been reunited with the owners.

What a tragedy

You weren't to know minimuu, and the dog lost poster does now just state that the dog has been reunited with its owners.

Sad outcome though. That lovely dog had been through so so much and deserved a chance at happyness.

The family must be in bits.(Not to mention the rescue)
Maybe he managed to slip out the house or slip his lead?

I'd imagine a greyhound on the run would be impossible to follow.
Poor lad .

They are all devestated. I am not sure how he got out of the house but I do know that it was a tragic accident. The family in question are experienced greyhound owners. But Frankie had been treated so badly when he was racing that his faith in humans was non-existant so he just bolted. Sad
