My 9 month old springer cross is in season, currently day 10 from when she first started bleeding. She only bled for 4 days and not very much. I know 3 weeks is a rough guide to how long it might last, but if she only bled for such a short time does it change things. I don't know how I will know it's finished? Thanks for any advice or experience you can give me!

This article should answer all your questions; and a few more besides!

Thank you for finding that article daisydotandgertie, it is very helpful. Does bleeding for less or more time indicate when ovulation will occur? All the people on that thread seemed to have bitches bleeding for at least 2 weeks. I can't say I've noticed any change in behaviour or any other signs as yet.

day 10 - 14 is the most fertile time and when they ovulate and are receptive so do not let her meet up with any boys atm !

The bleeding can come and go and 1st seasons tend to be lighter.

My bitch still gets interest from boys for about a month after the season so keep her on the lead and away from dogs.

Her first season may not be text book, but you can be pretty sure that she's still in season, even though the first part of her bleeding was shorter than some.

To be safe, you need to expect her season to last 28 days.

Thanks, I rather thought that might be the case. Stealth walks for a while longer then!
