Leaving dog alone on bonfire night

we have a 2 year old border terrier. on his first ever bonfire night, he was a tiny puppy and we lived in a densely populated area with lots of fireworks. we just cuddled him all evening- he was fine.

last year we went out to a small local display and left him alone- aged 1. btw, we had move by then to live in a very quiet area on the edge a village so fewer fireworks.

this year, i'd like to go to a display/bonfire in a nearby village, which would mean being away from home for about 4 hours.

my question is this .... is it likely that my dog could react differently to the fireworks this year, even though we have had no history of being frightened?

if he is frightened, have read somewhere that if you make a fuss of them, it can reinforce the fear... so is it better to be around or just leave him to it? HmmSad

would it be unkind to leave the dog alone for this length of time, dyou think? we would leave radio/ music on for him.

I would think you would be ok, if he's never had an issue before. Not all dogs are scared of fireworks (mine isn't at all).

Leave the tv/radio on, draw the curtains & give him somewhere to snuggle up ( a safe den ) & enjoy your firework display!

My dog was fine last year (he was 5 months old)
He appears to be more bothered this year but not completely stressed out. It's the flashes and colours he doesn't like so we close the blinds. He doesn't react to the bangs unless we are outside.
DH kindly stayed at home tonight while I took DS to a local display.
