Think Daphne was stung by wasp

she was lying sleeping when she jumped suddenly up and spun around and snapped in the air.

she went into her bed, and sat there looking a bit confused.

There was a dead wasp where she was sleeping, we wondered if she has stung.

she is now next to me on the couch, shivering, the poor baby.

I guess there is nothing we can do?

she has a swollen mouth

i have painkillers for dogs, should i give hr some?

Poor Daphne. I think the advice for wasp stings is to bathe with vinegar and maybe apply ice pack.

Its not obstructing her breathing at all, I hope? (apparently that can be an issue with dogs if they get stung inside the mouth) - if it is then vet asap seems to be the advice.

She has gone upstairs to bed. Will try vinegar and cooling.

I have Metacam. Should I give her that?

Will she let you look to see if the sting sac is still there? If it is then it will still be pumping venom so pull it out without squeezing the sac further.

If it was a wasp rather than a bee I don't think it will have left a sac.

was dead on mat - wasp but dh thought it still had sting on it

Did you phone the vet and what did they say?

yes, wasps don't leave their stings thats why they usually survive. Not if they encounter a dog's mouth though!

I was stung by a wasp about a month ago and the stinger and sac were stuck in my hand. It is such a sore thing, poor little dog.

Didn't phone vet, she seems to be ok. Have cooled and given painkiller, and bathed in bicarb as advised on Twitter.

She has gone to bed so I will go up soon to keep an eye on her. Was not swelling further so think she is ok.

Thanks all for advice and sympathy. Almost as bad as when it happens to the kids.

She is fine, Sugarlake. Went out for a walk this morning and was bounding about as if it had never happened.

My pup got stung on the lip recently and I treated it with ice. We were convinced he was going to
die though as the first link on google said dogs can die from being stung!

It is scary, Kid, isn't it. She is fine now. I did jump right off of the sofa when a fly buzzed next to my ear a moment ago, thinking it was another wasp.
