Quality programmes for children - new BBC series starting on Tuesday

BBC1 4.30 - 5.00 The Roman Mysteries

Adventure/mystery stories set in Roman times, based on the books by Caroline Lawrence.

The filming has been on location, allegedly the most expensive children's drama yet produced, stills look stunning, and there are big-name actors involved too - Simon Callow, for example.

There are 5 hours of programmes, so presumably 10 weekly slots.

My boys can't wait!

Yes I heard about this on Front Row.
Good to know that the BBC are investing in quality children's tv.
Sounds fab.
Thanks for the reminder.

Lizs - I think it's all in the melting pot. Originally it was going to be 5 1-hr programmes.

I'm surprised how few adverts/trailers we've seen - though possibly a symptom of watching very little telly. But when there's something like Torchwood which is not appropriate for children they seem to see endless trailers for it!

There have been several ads during kids tv - they were counting down in roman numerals from 14 days to go then not saying until what until about a week ago ! Might chivvy ds to change quicker from swimming so he at least catches some of it on cbbc tomorrow!

This wasn't as good as I thought it was going to be. DS1 enjoyed it though
Did anyone else see it?

DS2 has piano lesson at this time too: I haven't told him yet! (Grandma has videoed it for us, as our video player is broken.)

Schedules only confirmed for first 4 programmes. Email the BBC and ask them to repeat them on CBBC!

I recorded ep 2 on CBBC but missed ep 1 on BBC1 as the schedule suggested it would be ep 1 not 2 on CBBC. I hope they do repeat it. DS slightly bemused by the romance story line but gripped by the explosion (not spoiling too much, set in Pompeii after all)! Can swap eps of Phoenix and Carpet if anybody has ep 1 recorded on DVD?

Mrs Who - my db has recorded it on DVD for us, but it has yet to be posted, and they're not very organised! If/when it gets here and works you're welcome to it

Videoed the first one for DD, she got back from dance class in time to watch half the second one on CBBC, does anyone know if that is the one that will be shown on BBC1 next Tuesday? It looks good so far, DD1 approves and she is a fanatical lover of the books. DD3 (age 4) bless her says 'It's not as boring as the books - like she's read them!
