Random questions from a Netflix novice

I'm about 7 weeks into using Netflix and have a few random questions to ask. Firstly, how long after a new season starts on tv before Netflix shows it? I've watched five seasons of Once Upon a Time and season six has just started in the US according to IMDB, so roughly when will I get to see it?

Secondly, I'm rubbish at searching for interesting programmes on Netflix, which is annoying as I'm an Olympic level Googler and had assumed that I would be able to find my way around other types of searches too. How do you find things that you would like to watch? I think it would be handy if they did an Amazon style 'People who watched this also watched ...' so that I could do a list of things that I've already watched and enjoyed see what people with similar taste to me also liked.

Lastly, long-term Netflix users, do you keep your account live permanently or do you watch until you've seen everything that you want to and then cancel the account for six months or so to allow the available films and series to refresh?

Depends on the programme as to how soon it will be on Netflix. They have different deals for different programmes so it's anyone's guess!

I'm rubbish at searching too. I think they need something like you suggest too, always thought that. Or a 'programme similar to' thing. They do change the menu according to what you watch but it leaves a lot to be desired.

I keep our account live but that's because me and hubby watch different things and DC likes to watch the same thing over and over.

Regarding searching, I access Netflix via my Blu-ray player and my laptop. The laptop interface is so much better because you can type in a search rather than select each letter individually on your tv screen.

My versions also have a "Because you watched..." list.

By the way, I have seen four versions, each has a different interface. Confused

I have a 'because you watched/added list' but it's just a random list of other programmes from the same genre and doesn't seem to have much in common with the thing that I watched. It would be more targeted if they had a list of things that people watched a whole season who had also watched a whole season of something I watched a whole season of (I had to read that back twice, but I think it makes sense). Just adding something or watching one episode isn't an indication that I liked it, but watching a whole season is.

The more you use it the more it suggests I've found. Mine gives me recommendations based on what I've watched.

You can also add something to your list when you spot something you're not in the mood for yet.

Oh, good news about Once Upon a Time. I've grown, umm, fond of Captain Hook. Grin

Because he's beautiful.

He's intense and twinkly, and he manages to wear all that leather and still look sexy. He's about the only man in the whole thing who actually kisses with passion, the rest of them look like they're getting up close to some serious garlic breath. Even Charming and Snow, who are actually married to each other in real life, look more comfortable than passionate in a clinch.

Once Upon A Time? Hmmm, I watched the first seven or so episodes when they first aired, then gave up. My friends tell me to give another try.

I nearly stopped watching when they were in Neverland (season 3 I think), there was an awful lot of wandering through the jungle for no real reason. That season was about 22 or 23 episodes long and they really didn't have enough plot for that many episodes, about 15 episodes would have been a much better and tighter story.

It took me a while to get into OUAT Andylion. It is good though. Colin O'Donoghue is gorgeous! :)

Op if you like comedies and musicals, I highly recommend Crazy ex-girlfriend (I'm a bit obsessed with it!).

I'll check out Crazy Ex-girlfriend, thanks. I'm currently trying Jack Taylor, which looks promising, and Designated Survivor, which looks fairly formulaic.

Grin Do! I've watched it twice (in 3 weeks) and downloaded the soundtrack!

I'll have a look at those.

Do rate things as you watch or don't want to watch.
The categories are awful though and the best recommendations come from here.

Oh it's just SO GOOD Grin There's about 50 original songs in season one. I can't recommend too many without massive spoilers but I love it when Greg sings What'll it be?
