Did I hear right? Did they really say there will be a live birth on T.V?

It is on the Wright Stuff now... and its meant to be brought to you by the makers of Big Brother.

Any thoughts?

Its due to be broadcast this Sunday.

its nothing new though is it, dont see what the fuss is about, what about all those portland babies/babes in the wood/birth-day type programmes, its all the same.

I'm gobsmacked about this to be honest. The thing is it is different to the portland babies type shows mainly because a) it's on a prime time channel and c) it's live not recorded b) it's being made by Big Brother company Endemol and really being 'bigged up' as entertainment. I find it deeply disturbing.

it is just another form of pornography posing as something else.

I don't understand. Are they going to show a section? It says about a new csection technique but that is in addition to the live birth. How on earth will they know when the baby is coming?

There has alrady been a c section shown on TV hasn't there? One is quite a bit of detail I think. I never saw it.

I'd prefer someone like BBC to do something like this series though, as I feel it might be better done and shown in a more informative and interesting way. Suspect Channel 5 may go for sensationalist views.

Why? Ive seen countless births of all sorts on SKY, and seeing it live is abit pointless. It not as if the people were acting and they had loads of takes! Money spinning...

Kelly - they have a number of women on 'stand by' and I think they're going to show a 'natural' birth and a section.

Hulababy- sensationalist is the right word - that's what worries me about it. I mean Endemol? come on.

i love all the birth programmes - especially home birth diaries ! don't really see what is the matter - does it not help bring birth back into the arena of what is normal?

erm. how can birth be sensationalised - it is one of the most life changing, sensational experiences any woman will go through!

maybe endemol doing it as they are live tv experts , but don't see how they can dramatise it any more than it would be anyway??

or am i missing something. i'd certainly watch it.

Because to me it's not a spectator sport.

fair enough - but not compulsory viewing!

i am going to watch it and i hope it is worthwhile...

Just from a practical point of view...won't those women on standby be under a bit of pressure? Surely nobody wants any extraneous pressure during childbirth??

HOw can they gurantee someone will give birth at the right time and give consent. Presumably it will have to be a low risk birth.

I guess thet will have to have one pre-recorded incase they don't get any performers.

Just read this in yesterdays observer, there is a planned c-section and hopefully(??????) a natural birth too.

LOL. Not sure if anybody has pointed this out, but the Birth Night Live was a Media Request post a while back!

What on earth is there to be gained by filming
live?

Report
Elf1981 · 02/10/2006 20:33

it isnt just the filming - a large portion of the show is going to be chatting with women who had had children about their experiences.

Just thinking about dd3's birth. Going fine then panic stations. Can't imagine how I'd feel being rushed to operating theatre and being hampered by cameramen, equipment, trailing leads etc.
