Which Spiderman DVD for 4yo??

DS (age 4), like many young boys, is developing a bit of an obsession with Spiderman...playing Spiderman games, singing the theme tune all the time, wanting Spiderman toys and clothes etc. However, it's all stemmed from his nursery friends being really into it...he's never actually seen any of the old Spiderman episodes. So I thought I'd maybe get a Spderman DVD for him as a stocking filler or something.

So I went onto Amazon to see what I could find and there are LOADS. So which one do I get? There's the Original Spiderman, the Spectacular Spiderman, Spiderman and his amazing friends and New Spiderman and probably lots more.

He does scare quite easily - he starts reversing out of the room at the mention of dragons or monsters, or at the sight of a shark in Octonauts - so I'm after a really gentle introduction and one where the villains aren't too scary. Can anyone recommend one that he might like? Or do you think he'd find them too scary??

They're 12A- no way are they suitable for a 4yo! "Stylised violence"- not a good thing to get your son into IMO.

I hope this is a wind-up.

There are cartoon versions Han based on the original comics which are rated U and PG.

Spectacular spider-man is what you're looking for OP, but be aware that PG might still be a bit scary for a four year old. In actual fact I don't think there are any U ones.

Maybe pick a nice Thomas DVD instead

DS is 4 and hasn't seen any of them either, he still loves spider-man :) Why not get him a figurine or playset or something rather than a DVD for now?

I've just found some which are rated U, but they're cartoons from the 80s so might have tom-and-jerry style violence in them (ie, more explicit than we're used to seeing in modern children's TV even if not realistic). One of the reviewers says that she was shocked by the content and didn't consider it appropriate for her four year old.

Hmm, although other reviewers have responded saying the reviewer might be mistaken.

HanSolo, I absolutely did NOT mean the Spiderman films! I'm mortified that you thought that's what I was talking about. Please rest assured there is no way I would ever let my 4yo watch a 12A film that, quite frankly, I find scary. It's the old cartoons I'm talking about. He's 4 years old and really into superheros, as are all his friends. He sometimes gets the Spiderman magazine and enjoys the comic stories...it's the TV versions of these I'm after.

Thank you BertieBotts, that's really helpful. As all his little friends go round singing the theme tune, I thought he was the only one not watching the old episodes at home but maybe not. From what you say from the reviews, I think maybe he is still too young and would find them quite scary still and I really don't want anything too violent...maybe I will just get some action figures for now! DS has picked up the song too I guess it's one of those things that just exists in the general public consciousness. I didn't actually know it was a theme tune :)
