Ooh, dilemma! 2 weeks ago I'd not have had this issue, as I'd never seen Homeland, but I've just finished watching the first series on More4; one episode each evening, finished last night so I MUST feed my Homeland addiction.
They're both at 9 - 10.05. For me, it's watching HL 'live', then DA on +1, figuring that DA would have some meaty recaps so missing 5 mins not an issue.

Downton, I've already seen Homeland during the week on RTE Grin. It's worth the wait.

What IS homeland? Have heard folk talk about it but being a die hard downtown fan I have not seen it

have to record both as I can't stand the bloody adverts! Always record anything on commercial channels so I can run them on Wink

Homeland is as different to Downton as anything could possibly be. It's an American fairly complex terrorist/thriller - you'll love it.

Can you watch Homeland series 2 without having watched series 1?

Report
tribpot · 07/10/2012 20:24

Oh. Homeland Series 1 on not 4OD at the moment? Not a big surprise but I was hoping to get caught up before getting stuck in to Series 2.

Hmmmmm.

Pilot episode of Homeland was fab. Really different. String female lead, doing dtuff on her own terms, possible mental health issues. Totally different to the ususal female leads you get.

The scene where she is rushing to a meeting, has no time for a shower, so just goes into the bathroom and uses a damp flannel to wipe her fanjo made me think, " aha, THIS is really different."

But as the series wore on, it became more and more conventional, more and more like "24". They never reeached the level of the pilot again. Except maybe the epsiode with the Saudi prince and his american "girlfriend". That was an interesting dynamic.

But pretty formulaic by the end.

Love Homeland. I also think its great that Carrie shows a different side to bi-polar. She is the onlyone who can 'see' Brody. Never watched Downton. I'mso expecting Saul toget brutally murdered, as Mandy Pantkin never seems to stay too long in any series.

For anyone who has considered recording too costly, sling your old VHS VCR on Ebay and look for one of the small fag-box size Freeview tuners (plugs into TV on SCART socket) that can record onto a USB stick !

Freeview recorders can be from 120 to 170 quid (I recently bought a Grundig 500 GB model from Tesco Outlet on Ebay, with warranty) so not completely going to break the bank (?)

Yes, I would record to be able to skip past adverts, and even if something is recorded more than once, is preferable to missing it. Don't like the commercial TV 'catch up' online services, no way to skip the ads!!
