Did anyone watch this?

I thought it was brilliant and Kelly Harrison was fab.

But, it was based on a true story and I'm just wondering if anyone one knows anything about it, I am just curious as to what happened after she killed her kidnapper.

Just googles and found this in case any one is intrested

"There was a girl called Sabine Dardenne, who was abducted at the age of 12 and kept by a man in a concrete box in a basement," says Teale. "Her kidnapper filled her head with the fact that he was working for other people, and that he was her saviour.

"Then there was another case, in Australia, of a woman who was found wandering. She didn't know what her name was, and she'd been kept in a box. She went back to the guy - she was so brainwashed that she couldn't bear life away from him."

Saw him in Stratford - upon- avon about 10 years ago and he was practically a young boy!!?

I watched this because I'm generally a fan of drama on TV (and all for the British film industry and new writers etc. etc.) BUT I think this one went a bit far. I actually found myself turning the TV off around half an hour before the end of the 1st part because I just didn't want to watch. I think my problem with it was that it either had to be based completely on a factual story (and I assumed it was partially based on the Dardenne case) which it wasn't or it had to be complete fiction but for some reason, I felt uncomfortable watching something that had been 'inspired' by an actual case.

I also thought that the flashbacks were unrealistic as they both still looked the same age in them. However, I thought the plumber bloke acted his part very well. After just watching Messiah, I'm wondering whether drama writers are trying to compete for the most gruesome award and are trying to shock the viewer rather than entice them into watching.

Marian realised the plumber was building a pit and she started getting really frightened so she called Chris (who had visited and left his number) and asked him to get her. He arrives but she finds she's too frightened to leave (after all the plumber's brainwash stuff about the network) so Chris gets pissed off, gets cross with her and leaves.

In the meantime, plumber is trying to set up a meeting with his daughter. They are supposed to meet in a park but he gets stopped for using his mobile on the way and then her friend is with her so he can't steal her.

He then breaks into their house in the night and drugs her (hanky over mouth) and carries her out. The younger sister sees him (he has a balaclava on and the girl in a sack) but she thinks he's father christmas (hmmm!). She wakes up her dad a bit later saying she's having a bad dream, dad realises the daughter is missing and puts two and two together and goes after the plumber.

Plumber has put the girl in a pit and has put Marian in a bath tied up in a sack with a stone on the top. Chris breaks in and finds his daughter - plumber finds him and they start fighting. Plumber is about to strangle Chris (life going out of him) when Marian emerges from bath with hammer in hand and proceeds to batter the hell out of plumber (blood everywhere) and cue credits.

should have said after Chris got cross with Marian he went home and had a reunion with his wife - admitting he loved her very much and he had got distracted with the marian thing and would not think about it again.

just wanted to add there is a book (few years old now) about a true life story that was very similar. It is called Perfect Victim only the lady in this case took the man to court and hes now locked away..... very disturbing thinking about how it could happen so easily.

just thought you may want to read it

I would have to agree with the review that cod quoted. There was another thread about this drama.

I found it disturbing and sickening and was very sad to learn that it's based on true events. I always regret watching these kind of horror films/progs about deviant sickos - the images stay with you and I'm not sure it's healthy as a society to use these ideas for entertainment - or perhaps I'm being overly sensitive.

I too thought it was horrifying and very disturbing. I think the trailers ITV did for it were completely misleading and it was also advertised as a drama and not a horror thing. Wish I'd never watched it
