Drug dealing in school - wwyd?

Hi, I'm namechanging for this as I've been snooping in ds's facebook and am a bit about it.

Anyway, over the last coup;le of weeks I've noticed that there's a lad (J) who talks with various people about getting hold of WKD, cider, fags etc for them for parties. Never taken too much notice. He's 14, most of the other people are 14 or 15.

Last night, though, he and another lad (M) were talking about coke, hash and alcohol, J was saying he could get him another line for a tenner, M was saying he felt high in period 5, etc etc.

I'm tempted to print off that last bit (not sure if you can print off from FB), and stick it in an envelope addressed to the head anonymously.

J has already been suspended a couple of times for stealing peoples' mobiles, getting into fights etc. but he's never bothered my ds and I have no reason to want him to be suspended or even expelled. I dabbled in a bit of everything when in my twenties so find it a bit hypocritical in myself to judge others, but they are awfully young to be doing drugs.

WWYD?? I need to know quite soon as will need to go to the library to print off the page, my printers buggered.

I'd print it and take it to the head in person.

Why not anonymously CMD? If it gets out that I've dobbed this lad in the repurcussions are likely to fall on ds who's not involved.

Because if anonymous, it's likely to go in the bin, rather than actually being actioned. There would be no reason for the head to let it out that you were the source, but you'll be able to explain to them how you came about this information and give it validity.

i would also take direct to HT.

Firstly, the ht would want to be made aware that there is dealing going on on school premises,as it is illegal.

Secondly if school and police deal with it correctly there should be no way you would be implicated, how would child know who reported it?.Presumably said child has lots of Facebook friends, could be any one of them or have come from any child "in the know"

I wonder if drug dealing goes on in all secondary schools..

It is irrelevant if you send it in anonymously or not as long as you do it.

This can easily be countered by saying it was all 'talk' but it is probably circumstantial evidence on something that the school already knows/suspects but cannot yet pin down.

At the comp where I work a sniffer dog comes in at least once a year, totally unannounced. I think only the Police team and one deputy Head knows what day and hour it will be.

Just interested to know what you've decided - I was in a similar situation last year; drink rather than drugs, and parents as well as school - one of the parents let slip and life was a nightmare for DS and repurcussions still rumbling. DS was blamed for spilling the beans and the posts on his Facebook wall were horrific. School was bloody awful for weeks afterwards even though his true mates (who were great) were sticking up for him, saying it was his mum and not him. Must admit that I personally would now do it much more anonymously - surely the school wouldn't just bin it? My DS's school were great - they went along the "a number of concerned parents have contacted up" line but didn't do any good, DS still got the flack. Poor kid is still not "forgiven" by some of his so-called mates .

God Cross & Grumpy, that's terrible! Am now worried slightly in case the school figure out it was me. I put 3 pages, covering alcohol, drugs and cigs into an envelope with a handwritten note to the effect that I wanted to draw it to the school's attention, but didn't want to provide my name, and put it in the lettebox outside reception.

Hopefully I won't be rumbled. Am a bit shocked that a parent at your school let slip that it was you, C&G - how did the parent find out, I wonder?

Am sure you're sufficiently anonymous Smiley - my mistake was to let parents know as well as school (drinking binges on school grounds but out of school hours)thinking that if my DS was involved I'd want to know that he was regularly getting wasted with his mates, climbing on roof of school and petty vandalism. He swears it only happened a few times, that he only had a few beers, never got completely smashed and didn't take part in any of the more dangerous antics or vandalism - was a bit but tbh he never came home drunk, and though could smell beer and fags on him trusted him that he had only had a bit. Unfortunately the parent who let slip was laying down the law with their DS who kept saying he hadn't been involved; the parent replied with "I know you have because C&G told me what you'd said on Facebook". Parent mortified but can kind of see how it happens - in face of blatant denial is sometimes difficult to keep details confidential.

All did calm down eventually - and though he wasn't entirely blameless, I did feel sorry for the amount of flack he got when in effect it was me who did the dobbing. Must admit would do it differently now and think you've taken the right approach. As I said before, there are still rumblings but we're looking forward to a happier Christmas!!

By way of update, J was expelled yesterday (he had a terrible record for stealing etc already) & two others suspended.
