YouTube channel?

My 14 year old daughter has told my 13 year old daughter that she wants to start her own youtube channel, and I accidentally overheard this conversation. I want to support her but I am worried about her privacy. What is the right thing to do? Let her or prevent her? I don't want her to think I'm standing in the way of her dreams.

What does she want to put on there?

Hi! Youtube is a huge community and there's a lot of children/teens younger than your daughter on there :)

It's really great for building confidence but there's also the danger of 'internet trolls', people who like to be mean just for fun.

One way for her to get round this issue would be to disable comments on her videos, which wouldn't really be a problem since they're pretty useless now anyways.
I would recommend you check the 'sign up age' for youtube, I think its 13 though so your daughter is old enough to make her own account.

If you're worried, ask for a link to her youtube so you can see what she's posting on there :) And there's the obvious like making sure she doesn't tell anyone personal details like her address, or film anywhere that makes it very obvious where she lives!

I know quite a lot so if you have any more questions I'm happy to answer :)

My DD has a youtube channel and she just makes & posts a new music video weekly. We can see what she's posting & I have access to look at all the comments which I do frequently. Its pretty innocuous stuff and no problems so far
