Guinea pig with tumour

My 8 year old piggie has lost weight and then I found a lump.

Took her to the vet yesterday and he says it's probably cancer. Not a cyst. It's on her underneath so abdominal/mammary.

Vet said she's too old to operate on which I agree with. He said just to keep an eye on the lump and if it splits/ulcerated then to bring her back to be pts.

She's eating ok but doesn't really move around the run like she used to, she just sits near the food in the hutch. I asked the vet when I would know if it was time to have her pts apart from the tumour looking nasty. He said when she's losing weight and/or not moving around much. I pointed out Id just said that was the case! So then he said that I would just know. Hmm

Any experience? Ive no idea how long she will last. Lump is big, golf ball size.

Aww love her Sad

First , 8 is a very good piggie age.
And though their primary purpose in life is to eat, and one of the first signs a pig is ill, is it stopping, it might be in her favour to be a bit lighter, less strain on her joints and heart.
She needs to eat enough to keep her guts active. She'll probably lose alot of her appetite so you'll need to keep treating her.

As for the "You'll know" , I think you will.
As long as she's eating, poohing and though she's not doing much, enjoying her life, then all is good still.
When you look at her and her body posture says "This is all too much for me now. I want out" then you take her on that last trip.

I think hot summer weather isn't good for piggies. Keep a close eye, she might not be able to groom herself, look out for flies/flystrike.
A ceramic floor tile if she wants something cool to sit on, maybe with a towel over to give her cushioning. She'll be physically drained.
Is she indoors or outside?

Hopefully she'll slip away quietly. But if her tumour does turn nasty, you won't have much time to act.

She's outdoors with another two. They have a hutch inside a run, so can pop inbetween the two freely. She doesn't really seem to come out into the run much these days. There's three piggies together so she has company.

Just hope if it turns nasty it doesn't happen at the weekend!

I'm giving her lots of carrots trying to fatten her up.

Thanks.
