I can't post this on FB as we don't want our Landlords to know about it just yet (they aren't happy with us having more than 6!)

Meet Oreo :) I picked her up on Tuesday from a woman who was having to downsize very quickly, she's from a local rat group so I was happy rehoming from her.

She's in our girls holiday/hospital cage until we get her in with the girls, we introduced her to them last night and she was unphased, but Zhaan, our alpha girl, isn't too impressed.
She's a small girl, smaller than my other rescue who is around 300g, but happy, alert and healthy.

Ahh she's lovely, and once Zhaan gets used to The New Rat Kid on the Block she'll hopefully just sigh and welcome her into the fold. (More rats to be Alpha over)

My female guinea-pig (Himalayan) thoroughly approves of your name choice. I chose "Oreo" driving home with them on the A127. Now she's a few ounces tubbier she's OreoDoubleStuffed Grin

Very cute. Smile Love rats, had them years ago, pre-kids. Best small pets imo

Hopefully! It doesn't help that Oreo was trying to groom her Grin

I didn't choose Oreo, she was an Oreo already and her previous owner said that we could change her name if we liked but actually, her colouring makes her Oreo and we can't really change it! I love OreoDoubleStuffed Grin

She's beautiful! She's very like one of ours! We are quite new to the rat world and had a scary thing happen today. This one is our naughty one. Always trying to escape. Never still. Today hse was on DDs bed eating and then she became very quiet and miserable. She started to retch and then was sick a few times. DD picked her up and ran down to me. Within a few minutes she was her usual self?? Had she possibly choked on something??? She seems fine this evening-but I worry about her as she's so little and we are such novices!!

Sounds like she choked turd :( It's bloody scary, we've had it happen once with one of our girls. They can't be sick so if something is coming out of their mouths they're choking. You can't do anything but wait when they choke, our girl was coughing up saliva for a few hours afterwards.

Oreo and Zhaan are having issues, Zhaan will not accept her -_- But we've had her less than a week so we'll take it slowly :) They're both in a little cage together and I'm going to take them for a drive together tomorrow.

Fingers crossed that zhaan comes round! Our two love each other-but then they've always been together.
I think that you're right about her choking. I didn't realise that they can't be sick! Interesting little creatures. DD said she was fetching and she could see her wee tongue! Poor baby! She brought up/spat out whatever she'd been eating-some sort of rat treat. Not a crayon this time! She seems fine now so hope that she's over it! Thanks fir your help.

Just an update really, Oreo is in with the girls! Grin They went into the small cage with her last week, then we realised that Aeryn had hurt herself (broken wrist we think!) and so they stayed in the small cage until today. I was going to keep them in longer as I hate putting Aeryn back before she's healed but it was to small for the four of them really and DP put them in the big cage earlier. But all is well Grin Oreo LOVES the big cage.

Zhaan is still being a git but That's just Zhaan. Now it's forced grooming rather than actual aggression though.
