hair dye issue- the badger look

I am posting on behalf of my lovely mum. She has her hair dyed blonde- the blondest you can with some ash to sort the grey. She however cant afford to keep having this done. She unfortuntely has a badger stripe down the middle- its dark with a good ammount of grey.
We were thinking about a home dye until she can afford to go to the hairdressers and get it dyed to a lower maintainence colour.

Do you ladies have any ideas?

Mum thought a semi might work, I'm not sure if will dye her roots blonde though?
Thought about a root kit but I did one once and I had orangery roots.

Any help is much appreciated while we wait to see what the hairdresser thinks she could do.
