Remedy for skin pigmentation - on face!

Just got back on Saturday from a lovely week's holiday abroad, on about the third day of the holiday my lovely DD (12) said "mum! you look like you've got a moustache"!!! - love her - I dont think she really thought how awful it made me feel but anyway....after checking in the mirror I realised she was right, however it is not a 'tach' - in some ways I wish it was, i would be straight in to get it waxed. It is skin pigmentation (i've popped into a skin clinic near where I live since returning to the UK) - the lady who gave me the free consultation said if I decided to go for laser treatment I would need to wait a couple of weeks to let my tan fade. She also said I should consider it very seriously as it can take between 2 - 6 sessions to remove - it costs £75 per session! Also if I go on holiday anywhere hot again I would always need to use a sunblock on it as it will come back (I would then look like i've just eaten a vanilla ice-cream thinking about it!).

I bought a concealer at the airport on my way home which hides it slightly but I am still very conscious of it.

I spoke to a friend at work today who has since spoken to her sister who is a holistic therapist (I think she said holistic anyway!, she has recommended that I try aloe vera - either capsules or cream, and/or vitamin E cream. Both of these remedies she said would take longer to show benefits but are alot cheaper than laser treatment.

I just wondered if anyone has any experience of skin pigmentation/remedies etc? I would be really grateful for any advice,

many thanks

I had this exact same problem when i was pregnant,i also had it over the left side of my forehead & my left temple.

I always wear No7 spf 50 face block as it does come back if i sunbathe.

I went to my GP & he gave me some gel, normally used for acne to put on it in the evening before bed,it took a couple of months but it did fade.

I found as well if i used my mac bronzer over my face it didnt stand out so much iyswim?

i went to my GP after visting the skin clinic to see if she could suggest anything, she didnt mention gel she just said "get a good concealer"!! yep thanks for that... however, thank you for your advice! i use a bronzer and it isnt quite as bad as when i first got back from holiday (obviously tan is fading quite quickly).

thanks again

I'm sure some magic cream has been recommended on mumsnet before...it you search for the technical name of patches of dark skin pigmentation (can't remember what it is now!) it will come up)

I have the same problem...but I have an dark area on the middle of my forehead, and odd patches on my cheeks, but for some reason it doesn't bother me. (Well not enough to do anything more than use a tinted moisturiser)
