Finally Said Yes to dd for pierced ears - But Where?

After thinking dd would be 18 and spending hard earned saturday job money to do it (like I had to!), before she had her ears pierced, we have said succumbed to peer pressure (and said she can have them done this summer(dd is 10). But where do we get them pierced? One of her friends had them done at her doctors (unusual, i imagine), another at hairdressers, and some at Claire's Accessories, but not sure about there. So, can anyone else help and reassure me about the best place to have my dd's ears piierced please, before dh changes his mind and goes back to his original age of 25 to have them done

My dd had hers pierced at our hairdressers. I wouldn't be too keen on Claires as a couple of her friends who had them done there had sore ears afterwards.

Thanks Dexter. Had heard the same thing about one friend, although others were fine. Now need to find hairdressers that do it - mine doesn't.

I have been told that the best place to go for is a really good reputable tattoo parlour/piercing place, and that you want somewhere that doesn't use one of those guns that pierces and puts the earring in in one action. Certainly I'd agree that it was one of those guns that mucked up the piercing in one of my ears.

I have quite a few piercings which I've had in a range of places.

In my experience, Claire's is good, it has a nice friendly vibe that your 10 yo DD would like.

Professional tattoo/piercing places do a good job, but can be quite intimidating places for younger people. Lots of big tattooed people with piercings everywhere in their faces.

Guns are commonly used for the ear lobe (as it's fatty tissue) and are very quick. Claire's uses a gun. In fact, most places would use a gun for the ear lobes.

Some places might use a needle, such as the needle that is used in body piercing. I'd say tattoo/piercing salons would use needles if you asked. They stick the needle in, then wip the earring in after in a swift movement.

As long as she keeps her head still (hard to do, I know) and cleans them well afterwards she should be grand

I would ask around amongst the Mums of girls who have had it done for a recommendation.

DD is 10 and desperate to have hers done - I'm not giving in yet but already know of where I would probably take her based on what I've heard other Mums say. There's a beautician/ nail bar place that has been highly recommended here -v hot on hygiene and they talk the girls through aftercare etc

oh, I also meant to add that based on DDs friends experiences I wouldn't go to Claires

Like what NorbertDent says, ask around on what is good in your area. The Claire's I went to was great (one in Belfast, NI), but they might not all be as good.

After reading scary stories about Claire's etc, and some local reviews, My DD had hers done at a local tattoo parlour with a needle. Went very well except for having to look at scary tattoo and piercing pictures on the walls while we waited .
