Help me find an affordable alternative to this Anthropologie dress for my sister's wedding and I will love you forever

This windcatcher dress from Anthropologie is exactly what I want, my sister loves it too, but we just can't afford that much for a dress, there's gotta be an affordable alternative out there right? I could probably go up to £60

Could you accessorise this dress from Debenhams with a ribbon sash maybe?

Debenhams have loads of floaty flirty party dress styles at the moment.

Ooh that is pretty. Sorry not helpful

display that first red herring one might work, with a different sash, I will go and try it on, see what it look slike.

Didn't like the second one at all. Wouldn't suit me.

Never thought about Debenhams, was gonna go and look in John Lewis though.

I know Orm, it is lovely! You're meant to be helping though

Yes, the first one is a better match, although it doesn't have the pretty pattern on it like the Anthropologie dress has.
Debenhams and John Lewis definitely good places to look - House of Fraser too if you have one handy as they often have a good selection of dresses for special occasions.
Let us know if you track anything decent down!

I really want the Anthropologie one though

Fever website often has similar stuff and is less £££

It's very pretty - and normally I would be saying just scrimp a while and buy it. BUT actually isn't it just the teeniest bit Bridal, especially if sitting down?

I think that there will be plenty of highstreety alternatives to that style around that you could joosh up with sashes and jewellery. Warehouse might have something.

when is the wedding - can you hang on for the sales?

can I add my agreement that it's a fab dress, but too bridal? Sorry... (unless you're the bride?!)

Oh gosh I hadn't thought of it being bridal, it was my sister (the bride) who sent me the link and said she wished me and her other two sisters could afford them, but if not could we find something similar to wear to the wedding...

She has been quite particular about what we wear and doesn't want us in any bold colours, preferably creams

I like the Fever site captain! There's a lovely longish dress of a similar colour.

Pity I am too tall for most normal dresses Have learned my lesson after buying clothes online to find the waist is up round my tits!

oh dear orm, yes that is what I worry about with online shopping.

How tall are you?

I will look at fever, never heard of it before but am new to this!

Funny that your sister wants you in cream, I would also have steered clear of pretty cream dresses for a wedding.

The first Debenhams dress looks good, you can get a different sash and/or a goldy corsage or something to glam it up some more.

this £55
this £22 with adding a sash yourself
this £35
or this £60

They do look nice, I've never actually ordered from there though! Gets linked to a lot on MN. Are you and your other sisters bridesmaids?

Report
overmydeadbody · 18/03/2010 18:28

Well not bridesmaids exactly as she doesn't want them but the next best thing, we're obviously importsnt to her and key players in the wedding

RedShoes thank you for all your links! The first one is nice but I think a bit short for me, would be good for my (shorter) sis though.

The second one would deffo work with a nice coloured sash of some sort...

The third one I would be scared looks to much like a nightie, that's what my mum and dad would say anyway, I can see their faces already...

The £60 link just gives me the same £35 one

and am sending the links to my sister now for her approval
