What colour cardigan to go with this dress?

The dress is for DD2 (10) to wear to a Christening - she'll be wearing it with black tights and boots but I think the cardigan needs to be a stronger colour to brighten it up a bit - any ideas what colour style would work? She is a pale-skinned blue-eyed blonde.

How about a turquoise/sea green type colour?

Yellow is really in at the moment (Next), coral would look good too or like onepiece said, a sea green/teal type colour.

You know, I didn't think of that, but you are right - turquoise looks lovely on her. Will commence search for turquoise cardi.

I think if you put a coloured cardigan with that it'll just look like it's been randomly put on over the dress IYSWIM. Black, gray or white (or is it cream) would be soooo much better. A tailored jacket would be fab.

My dds have similar colouring. dd1 has a turquoise-y colour cardy (was a gift from abroad so no help with a link).

It also (surprisingly) looks gorgeous over her cerise party dress. On the hangers they look like they should clash but they don't at all.

Those bold, jewellery type colours look fab on blondes with pale skin imo.

A tailored jacket? For a 10-year-old? Are you sure? And no bright colours? Won't she look a bit "Take a letter, Ms Smith"?

I love the idea of cerise and turquoise OPOL.
Anyway, I have trawled the internet and am still no nearer finding a cardi/tailored jacket. Anyone got any suggestions? All the cardis I can find won't look right over a shirt dress.

I think red would look nice over that - maybe with some red ballet pumps or something?

I think coloured tights and matching cardigan .

Turquoise or red or fuschia

Juat had an idea - instead of a cardi - you could always buy a lvoely cerise/tourqoise/whatever other colour you like roll neck to go under the shirt dress. That would look good and be a hint of colour underneath. Then she could wear her coat to go in and take it off once she's inside.

I think to tie the colour in you should either have coloured tights or shoes.

Report
luciemule · 02/02/2010 14:18

ditto the tights

Oh thank you so much for your suggestions folks. I love the roll neck and tights idea. The Christening is end of Feb and the church will be cold so actually that would probably be warmer than a cardi, wouldn't it?

Oh yes the roll neck idea is lovely, practical but still adding a pretty/bright edge to the dress.
