Wedding outfit challenge!

I can't put it off any longer... Dp's sister is getting married in a month's time and I need to find an outfit. This is a childless woman who usually looks spectacular even in (well chosen) jeans and t-shirt. Plus many of the other people attending the wedding will also be childless. I expect understated chic will be the order of the day and I would like to look my best rather than the slightly overweight slummy (but devoted) mummy that I truly am.

I prefer to wear a dress to weddings, but I am breastfeeding ds3 so suitable separates would be better this time.

I am 5'2" and naturally cylindrical (i.e. no waist) but at the moment I still have a bit of a post-baby belly and quite big boobs due to the breastfeeding. I have huge muscular calves that I'd rather cover than show off. I am fair with dark blonde hair and hazel eyes. I usually wear pale blues, aqua, teal, grey, khaki, brown, pale pink or black - definitely no oranges, yellows or bright reds.

Ideas are fine, rather than specific items in the shops at the moment. Or even just point me to a good brand for my kind of shape. Despite being on my third child I still haven't really worked out what suits me now, shape-wise. Given oodles of time I'd rather have a rummage in charity shops or dress exchange places than buy things new. However, if left too late I'll probably have to splurge on new things.

Apologies if I post this message and don't return tonight. I have laundry to hang out and ds3 will probably wake up and then I'll probably go to sleep feeding him... but I promise I'll come back to check tomorrow.

Well, if you want to cover your calves, how about trousers? Maybe with a nice top?

Is it a daytime or evening-y wedding?

Ooh, Gok 'did over' someone your shape a few weeks ago. She looked lovely when he had finished with her. This is link to her capsule wardrobe. The Fenn Wright Manson wrap dress was my favourite. The Warehouse jacket also worked well as he nipped it in with a belt and it gave her a curvy shape.

Sorry, just spotted that you are BFing. I have happily worn a wrap dress with cami underneath and BFd at weddings.

It's a daytime wedding.

Thanks for the link Florence, I wish I'd seen that program as it would have given me lots of ideas. I've watched the clip and she does look great I've always thought wearing a belt over jackets etc would make me look too dumpy but it works well with a really fitted jacket. I don't have her legs though!

Interestingly I had a fitted denim jacket from Warehouse when I was a teenager that I really loved and was a similar shape to that one.

W went to a wedding when dd was a bout 6 weeks old. I wore some black with spangly speckles in, a camisole top over my MEGA brawith a wrap around pretty top over. I was able to..er... poke myself through if you see what I mean!

I did, however, find that everyone was looking at the babies and that I paid no attentention to how I was dressed after fliging everything on in the morning. Frankly at 5 weeks after birth, just having bra, pants, trousers AND some eyeliner folt like mega dressing up!!!!!

Could you track down that Warehouse jacket or similar and wear with wrap top and thin cami underneath and some gorgeous trousers?

It's such a shame that it isn't a winter wedding. A FWM wrap dress and knee-length boots would have looked lovely.

I will bear the wrap dress in mind for any 'events' I get invited to in the winter. Knee-length boots do make it far easier to dress in the winter. In the summer I usually end up wearing voluminous linen trousers. They may not really suit me but at least they hide my calves.

MumbleCrumble, I am very impressed that you managed to go to a wedding at 5 wks and remember your eyeliner.

Right, I am now on the look out for fabulous trousers and fitted jackets. Sincere thanks, ladies.
