I'm going to the pub tonight (wooohooo), but I need your advice on whether or not I'd look ridiculous turning up in a 'going out' dress

I just really fancy dressing up a bit, and I have a black dress with little white polka dots that I usually wear to parties that I want to wear. Will I look silly? Will people be a bit ?

Do I stick with jeans and cami-top?

Can you dress it down/wear it over jeans?

Or am I missing the point - you want to dress UP - up to you, so long as you feel comfortable. Can you suggest to whoever's going with you that you both dress up?

Depends on the type of pub and the crowd you are going with.

I don't know what pub yet, but am meeting a male friend there (no, not that kind of friend) who I won't be able to persuade to dress up with me lol

It's just quite a grown-up style, rather than the usual surfery style that I usually go for, so will require tights and proper shoes too, it can't really be dressed down.

I'm being silly aren't I. It's just not quite warm enough for my casual dresses yet...

Unless it's a really dodgy pub, I'd go for the dress! Why not dress up a bit seeing as you've got a night out!
Think the footwear could be the difference between looking OTT or just pretty damn stylish!

Should be okay on a friday night. I'd probably stick a denim jacket over the top to begin with, then shove it under a table once I'd got comfortable. Can we have a link to a similar dress so we can give you a better judgement?

Hope you have a good time.

No you're not being silly - probably thinking about it too much(I do that too). Just go for it.

oooh good idea tbc

Yes the footwear is crucial isn't it? All I have that will go are black patent high heels (but not too high)

hang on while I look for a link...

as long as the heels aren't too high and you don't wear stockings with seams, it sounds like you'll look great! I'm envious...

the dress is like this

but with little sleaves and a colar, rather than the low neckline

Yes, I think those shoes with the dress will be great!
FWIW, I was at a wedding recently and stayed overnight and because it was rare to be without all my kids, I wore a wrap dress and heels the next morning for breakfast, with a little cardi to "dress it down" a bit - I felt fabulous and no-one looked at me strangely - and I wasn't even going out on a Friday night, I was just eating toast!
Enjoy your night!

right, I will go with what you all say and just wear it! To hell with what people think, I want to look nice and feminine for a change.

That's nice. I'm wearing something similar to go out in on sunday night, but with leggings and ballet flats (because sundays are more casual than fridays).

Wear it! It's nice to wear dressing-up things

I should invest in some ballet flats

Ooh, well I'd probably go with nude ones - but that's only because I feel a bit like a school girl if I wear opaques.
I had the same dilemma with my wrap dress attire that breakfast-time and went for nude as it was more summery.....just be sure not to go for an old lady's tan coloured leg!!!!!

Ooohh not nude tights, can't you fake tan? The dress sounds lovely, I'm going out tonight too. My idea of dressing up is high heels . Have fun!

my friend will be a bit though, he only ever sees me in combats and scruffly tops and outdoorsy wear as the only socialising I've done with him befoer has been climbing and camping and hiking
