Skirt shoes or those of us with chunkier ankles....

My legs are reasonably slim but my ankles aren't as skinny as you'd expect them to be, IYSWIM.

Pointy black stilettos were just amazing - lengthened my legs and made me feel fabby,

But now it's all chunkieer heels and Mary Jane straps, isn't it? Please someone find me some shoes that will make me look long and lithe again!

Help!

I feel your pain. Overall I have great legs, but horrible ankles and flat, chubby feet. Living in the rainy north I can get away with knee-high boots for 2/3 of the year.

I'd say chunky or wedge heels would still be ok - anything that gives you a bit of height, but avoid ankle straps and any other detail that will draw the eye to your ankle and shorten your legs.

A nude coloured shoe is supposed to make your legs look longer butI don't know if that's really true or something Trinny and Susannah made up :-)

I love high heels but even I'm put off by heel heights at the moment. There doesn't seem any middle ground between ballet pumps (=dumpy legs) and 5in vertigo shoes.

wedges with no ankle strap
make sure the strap is low in the foot

sadly comfy flats look shite on me too

Ah, so glad someone understands the angst! I'd forgotten about the nude colour, excellent - will keep looking for low straps etc. Gah,

I bought a pair of nude shoes a few years ago. They sit in my wardrobe having been worn twice as a) they don't necessarily "go with everything" the way you think they will and b) they don't make any difference to the appearance of my legs!!

I have found that a mary jane with the strap across the bridge of my foot is fine - any lower and it makes me look like Great Aunt Flo on her way to the WI meeting, complete with overflowing feet......attractive, as I am sure you will agree

I know we of the cankle persuasion are supposed to steer clear of ballet flats but I am afraid that I love them too much not to wear them. My tip is to go for a wider style (not necessarily "wide fit" though, iyswim) and then you don't get the "overstuffed fairy" look. In the winter, opaques make them more cankle friendly. I wore a pair of ballet pumps with black full length leggings beneath a dress and I was surprised how flattering this look was - made my ankles look normal but the leggings were right over my ankle to the top of my foot and not finishing just on or above it.

Try French Sole - they do a ballet pump with a slightly higher heel than most here. It makes a difference compared to the super flat ones available in most stores.
