Hi Guys, I have been directed to these pages by a friend who thinks you may be able to help!

My Name is Jennifer and i'm currently writing my dissertation for my Honours project for my degree in Clothing Design and Manufacture.

My Dissertation is on The Use of Thermoregulatory Textiles in Maternity Wear.

So if you could spare a few minutes could any of you who have any experience with maternity wear just answer a couple of questions for me.

Thanks so much for all your help!

1.While buying maternity clothes do you look at the fabric composition of the garment, or do you choose based on the style of the garment only?

  1. Have you ever felt uncomfortable during pregnancy because of increased body heat?

  1. Would you be interested in maternity wear made from fabrics that actually help keep you cool?

  1. Do you/ did you tend to purchase your maternity clothing from Online Retailers or High Street stores?

5.Which age bracket are you/were you during your last pregnancy?

I look at both, but more importantly, I would want my fabric to suit the garment - ie, I would prefer to buy a jersey dress (to cling to bump) than a cotton shirt dress (which would make me look fat).

  1. Have you ever felt uncomfortable during pregnancy because of increased body heat?

no

  1. Would you be interested in maternity wear made from fabrics that actually help keep you cool?

not really

  1. Do you/ did you tend to purchase your maternity clothing from Online Retailers or High Street stores?

Both, but almost always only but natural fibres, pregnant or otherwise. However, I do like 2 or 3% lycra in t shirts and jeans. The exception, of course, is if I am buying performance sportswear.

  1. Have you ever felt uncomfortable during pregnancy because of increased body heat?

No, I was cold the whole time, eben though my baby was born at the beginning of September and I was enormous all summer!

  1. Would you be interested in maternity wear made from fabrics that actually help keep you cool?

See 2!

  1. Do you/ did you tend to purchase your maternity clothing from Online Retailers or High Street stores?

Both, primarily online, as v little on high street (although Gap Maternity opening nearby last year was a godsend!)

1.While buying maternity clothes do you look at the fabric composition of the garment, or do you choose based on the style of the garment only? Both. During the early stages I looked only at the style but after around 6 months onwards (when i needed a lot of new clothes!) the fabric composition became more important. Comfort became the main priority when chosing clothes.

  1. Have you ever felt uncomfortable during pregnancy because of increased body heat? Yes. I had to abandon anything that involved wearing tights because my legs would get roasting hot!

  1. Would you be interested in maternity wear made from fabrics that actually help keep you cool? Perhaps, if they were also stylish.

  1. Do you/ did you tend to purchase your maternity clothing from Online Retailers or High Street stores? Online retailersas their lines were more consistently available.

.While buying maternity clothes do you look at the fabric composition of the garment, or do you choose based on the style of the garment only? When I was first buying, I just looked at shape, but I soon discovered that fabric type was SO much more important

  1. Have you ever felt uncomfortable during pregnancy because of increased body heat? Definitely

  1. Would you be interested in maternity wear made from fabrics that actually help keep you cool? Yes, as long as they didn't also aggravate my skin which became much more sensitive when I was pg

  1. Do you/ did you tend to purchase your maternity clothing from Online Retailers or High Street stores? Mainly high street so I could try them on

I would like to thank everyone very much for their input! this has been very very helpful.

I would also like to reassure those with sensitive skin that the fabrics I am investigating aren't chemically treated, in fact they work due to the structural shape of the fibres. This allows moisture to be wicked away from the skin and lets your skin breathe far more easily than traditional fibres.

once again thank you so much!
