On Richard & Judy {ch 4 or ch 4 + 1 @ 6.15pm} they have been talking about Brides choosing ugly colours or style so that

The bridesmaid doesn't out shine the bride

What happened at your wedding or when you were bridesmaid???

I was bridesmaid for my sister when I was 19 and wore a pale blue silk dress that was quite pretty

My bridesmaid wore pale pink plain laura ashley dress so that was quite pretty too

So what did you do as a bride or bridesmaid?

Horror or pretty?

i dont think i have ever heard of anyone actually CHOOSING to make their bridesmaid look ugly. imo the dress reflects the brides taste, so it would look bad on the bride.
i got married 8 years ago this year and when i look back at our bridesmaids dress, i now think it is awful, but at the time i thought it was classic and lovely. but i was only 19 at the time, what did i know

i was a bridesmaid last feb and the dress was chosen by the bride, and was really plain but fitted in with the brides dress and colour scheme.

I think only the under 12s should be bridesmaids anyway

grown up bridesmaids are NAffola

lol

my bridesmaids were only 6 so wore very cute short cream dresses with pastel flowers on them and pastel flowers in their hair. Obviously they didn't outshine me

I have been a bridesmaid 3 times:

pale blue flowered long dress
rather sophisticated long french navy velvet
pale pink long with 3/4 sleeves - quite pretty but wasn't really my style at the time (I was 20)

My SIL made sure she chose horrors when she got married. All her bridesmaids (me included) were large of nork but she chose boat necked (I know! I never imagined such a thing existed either - they were made for us btw) brown gold and blue dresses.
Only when all of us looked like Russian shot putters in drag was she happy.

The only time I was a bridesmaid it was as a solo bridesmaid and I wore a beautiful 3/4 length flowery dress from Laura Ashley, and I can still remember the day we bought it in Nottingham. I was 16 years old and the dress was a size 10 petite. The bride and me along with my dad and stepmum (who were paying for it) trailed all over the city looking for a suitable dress to compliment her gown I still have the full emsemble somewhere, complete with shoes and petticoat. The bride looked absolutely stunning in a gorgeous ivory silk dress and I couldn't have upstaged her if I'd tried, not that I wanted to.

My bridesmaids looked stunning.

The older 2 were 35 and 15 and wore navy blue Monsoon dresses in silk with draped necklines and strappy sleeves and they carried bouquets of white tulips.

the younger 2 wore Monsoon cream dresses. They were 4 and 6 and carried hoops of flowers.

They didnt outshine me though as my dress was cream and navy. we all complemented each other.

mm perhaps that explains the dresses selected by a family member who shall remain nameless

two adult bridesmaids; one with dark red hair, and me who is on the brown side of ginger

choice; bright pink laura ashley and white stilettos. horror.

I was a flowergirl when I was 4, pretty blue dress, horrible mob cap

Flowergirl at about 9 or 10. Horrible dress with peach flowers. (loved it at the time though)

Bridesmaid at 20. Deep red/pink dress, with sweetheart neckline, and puffed sleeves

My bridesmaids wore a A-line, sleeveless gold raw silk dresses with dark green bolero. I know that sounds grim, but it was an Autumn wedding and they were really lovely.

My DB gets married next year and I am a bit apprehensive about being a bridesmaid at my age. He and Sil-to-be would not take no for an answer.

I do not know anyone who deliberately chose horrible dresses so that their bridesmaids would not outshine them. That is wierd.

I had two little girls as I hated being an adult bridesmaid for my friend so much. She chose a lemon dress (any yellow is about the worst colour for my skin tone) and had them made but the dressmaker was crap so the darts stuck out like tiny nipples on the bodice. I ahd pale pink shoes and a bright pink scarf thing. I looked monstrous. Top it off with a headband tiara thing that left dents in my scalp.

I have been a bridesmaid countless times.

Age 9 - Cream frilly dress
Age 16 - Pale blue and pink floral dress with white hat and shoes (not too bad at the time 1980's but my 5 year old sister wore a matching dress and hat so I looked a bit silly)
Age 21 - Lavender dress that was ok I suppose
Age 25 - Cerise silk a-line dress not too bad either.

Please note all the dresses were made to measure so at least they fit.

When I got married my sister 17 wore a burgundy 2 piece from monsoon which looked lovely, very classic.

My two bridesmaids, both in their 20s, wore lilac skirt & jacket combinations with cream camisole/tops underneath. They felt more comfortable than if I'd have chosen horrible frilly dresses
