Black velvet trousers - styling ideas?

I picked up a lovely pair of black velvet trousers in a charity shop recently. I really like the fit on me. They're wider than I would wear jeans, but not super wide - maybe a bit like these (they are not the exact same ones):

I'm a bit shapeless and usually wear longish tops over trousers but these are such a good fit around the waist and lower torso, I think I'd feel confident to wear shorter tops with them. But what? I'd be interested in ideas for dressing them up and how to use them as everyday wear. I can wear medium heels and I think they do look better with them, but no very high heels please!
